Terminator Salvation Movie Review 27

Terminator Salvation is the fourth movie in the Terminator Series and it stars Christian "Get out of my line of sight" Bale as the now older John Connor. He is still fighting against the machines and Sam Worthington stars as Marcus Wright. He is a mysterious character that we see being executed in 2003 but is somehow alive and kicking in 2018. The beautiful Moon Bloodgood who starred in What Just Happened which I reviewed here. Also in it is Anton Yelchin who played Chekov in Star Trek which I reviewed here. Yelchin plays Kyle Reese who is John Connor's dad. Remember, according to the first Terminator movie, John Connor sent Kyle Reese back in time to protect his mother and they ending up getting it on and creating a baby called John Connor! It must be weird to meet your dad when he is young!! Michael Ironside is also in this movie as a resistance general! He always seems to end up playing military commanders of one type or another!!!

Terminator Salvation gets going very quickly and settles down into a nice action movie. It becomes apparent after a while that it is not in the same class as the first two Terminator movies but it still is a fun ride. There is none of the suspense of the first two and my biggest disappointment is the A-Team style action. There is lots of shooting and Terminators getting blown up and riddled with bullets but not much blood or gory death scenes. Here in Ireland, this movie is rated 12's but surely movies like this should be 18's so we can get more blood and realism such as people dying. This movie reminds me of Star Trek which I reviewed here as in the action is suitable for everyone. That's okay for Star Trek, but not for the Terminator franchise in my opinion. Also, just like Star Trek, Terminator Salvation holds up fine if taken on its own merits but when compared to the rest in the franchise, it comes up short.

It felt like they were unsure what direction to take the Terminator series and went for that path of maximum exposure by making it almost suitable for everyone. I don't think that I am giving anything away by saying that it ends in a way which suggests we are in for another couple of movies in this series. Hopefully they will make it more adult-orientated but Terminator Salvation is still worth seeing. It's a good movie just not that great. What is good about this movie is Moon Bloodgood!! She was in What Just Happened and what better excuse to show her off again so here she is!!!

Terminator Salvation (6/10)

I have watched the terminator series, the movies are quite good. Terminator Salvation is the fourth in the series. One thing that disappoints is that there is no main terminator that goes killing humans like in Terminator 2. MCG, the director, did a great job especially creating the gritty and tough world. MCG proves that he can go from comedic action with stunts to loud whizz-bang and gritty action. But his story pretty much stays the same. His movies have always been a mindless thrill ride. That is Terminator Salvation.
