Amanda's Suggested Remakes!

I was challenged to come up with some movies that I think could benefit from a remake and I have to admit that I found it very hard. Some of the movies I have chosen are movies that I felt had a good story, but were badly made. Some of you will disagree with me totally and some of you might see what I mean. I like some of these movies, but I felt that they could have been made better and the stories could have been worked on a bit. Let me know your thoughts...

Firstly, we have Riding the Bullet(2004). I did not like this movie at all because it wandered too far away from the story which was penned by Stephen King. If it had been taken as it was in the story, then I think that this movie would have been better. I would suggest remaking this as it should have been in the beginning.Next I have Drag Me To Hell(2009). I know that I will get some flak over this, but I felt that it wasn't the best it could have been. I liked the story, but I felt that the movie was just medicore. That's just how I felt about it and I really wish that they had taken some of the obvious cliches out of it and concentrated more on the horror. I know that it is probably supposed to get a laugh from people, but it just disappointed me, so I would not mind if Sam Raimi decided to give this one another try...

Next on my list is Let The Right One In(2008). I disliked this movie. I can hear loads of people saying Oh My God, but I didn't get it at all. There were a couple of good scenes in it, but it was not what I would call a great movie at all. I always find that when people make a huge fuss out of a movie, then you have huge expectations and then you watch it and are let down. That was how I felt about this and I know that there is going to be a US version , so maybe that will be better.
I really love the movie Flowers In The Attic(1987), but I would have to say that if this was to be remade I would like to see more of the original book in it. The original movie has some stuff in it, but the ending was totally different from the book and I would like to see this made with a lot more taken from the book.

Another few movies that could do with a makeover are: The Funhouse(1981), The Sentinel(1977), Snuff(1976), Let's Scare Jessica To Death(1971), He Knows You're Alone(1980), Maniac(1980), Evilspeak(1981). Don't get me wrong, I liked all of these movies, but if you push me, I will say that they could do with a new outing. In the right hands, these movies could be made better, but that it is only if there was a good director with a sense of what they should be and not someone who wants to make them into kids movies for teen audiences. If there was someone who would like to make movies which are reminiscent of those old 70's and 80's horror movies I love, then yes, I would like to see these remade. Let me know if you have any other ideas for remakes...

I would give almost anything for a good adaptation of the 'I Am Legend' novel. It's been tried 3 times already (Last Man on Earth, The Omega Man and obviously I Am Legend) but none of the films came close to getting it right. I think it's a great concept for a story and I'd love to see it done justice.

What about MADMAN or LEGACY OF BLOOD? Both good movies that really didn't have a successful run. It's tough to find a movie to remake, but well known classics are a no-no. How can you improve on them...and you're not bringing attention to them...just making money off the name. I would like to see the obscure remade. What about WARLOCK MOON?

Amanda, that's a fascinating article: I hadn't thought about potential remakes of films that didn't quite get the book but it's a really good point. Only thing is you've chosen mostly movies I haven't seen - will correct this immediately...

Thanks for all your comments. As I have often said, I do not like remakes of movies which are fine as they are. The movies I have chosen were really just suggestions and if they are never remade, then that will be fine with me. It was a tough challenge to find movies worthy of a remake and I found it difficult to name them because those movies I might not have liked could be someone else's favourites! So, it's a tough one!

Excellent topic Amanda, and your choices are good ones.

Anyone who has read my review of The Raven http://thecurrentsituation.com/2009/11/raven-2006.html knows how bad I hated it, but done correctly I think it could be awesome.
