Best Slashers of the 1980's Part 3

We left off in 1983 the last time so now, I am going to take you through some more slashers from 1984 and 1985.Some of these are pretty obscure, but if you like horror movies, then you might want to watch them...

Starting with 1984, the best slasher from this year would have to be A Nightmare on Elm Street which I reviewed here. I wasn't too sure whether this would be classified as a slasher or a supernatural horror, but it doesn't matter. It is a classic anyway and one of my favourite horror movies. You know the story and you know the characters so I will just say that this really started a new breed of horror movies and introduced one of the best baddies ever- Freddy Krueger! Another slasher movie I liked is Friday the 13th 4: The Final Chapter. Corey Feldman starred in this one.Silent Night, Deadly Night was a Christmas slasher movie and it is worth a watch any time of year!

Now for some lesser known slashers- The Initiation which starred Daphne Zuniga wasn't a bad movie. Blind Date was another slasher and it starred Kirstie Alley. Some more obscure slashers from 1984 are Splatter University,Silent Madness,Girls Nite Out, Fatal Games, Satan's Blade and Rocktober Blood!!!!Some great low budget horror there and worth seeing if you like the slasher genre like I do. I think that it is a shame how some of these movies have been forgotten over the years...

Anyway on to 1985 which wasn't a brilliant year for the slasher. The sequels were in abundance. Nightmare  On Elm Street 2: Freddy's Revenge and Friday the 13th Part 5 made an appearance as did The Hills Have Eyes 2. Dario Argento brought us the supernatural slasher Phenomena starring the young Jennifer Connelly. Now for the low budget movies. There are some great titles here..Let me start with The Nail Gun Massacre, The Mutilator and Too Scared to Scream! Blood Cult, Horror House on Highway 5 and Screamplay are more examples of b movie horror, Lastly, Murder Elite and Murderlust finish off the year. There weren't great original slashers from 1985. I liked  Phenomena and The Hills Have Eyes 2.

That is my selection of slashers from 1984 and 1985. Some are great, some are okay and some are downright awful, but I had to include them. I like low budget horror and you can be pleasantly surprised sometimes.....Let me know if I have left out any slashers!!!

Hell's Kitchen Season 9 Episode 1

It's back!!!!!It is season 9 of the great Hell's Kitchen and I am enjoying it once again. There are more irritating, stupid, useless and big headed cooks than ever before and I have singled out the people I do not like already!

So, it begins with the usual introductions of the cooks who think that they are brilliant and when they cook their signature dish , some are good and some are terrible. The prize this year is a job as head chef at the BLT Steak in New York City. The salary is $250,000. Not bad! So, firstly , Elise is annoying me. She has a serious attitude problem and she is going to butt heads with everyone she meets. The chefs present their dishes and it is men versus women(Watch the video above). Will presents his and he is one to watch as Chef Ramsay likes it. The men win the challenge and go to eat at some fancy restaurant while the women have to clean both kitchens. Next day, service begins and the cooks get ready. Elise is overpowering already. In the men's kitchen, Jason(pictured below) is having problems. He feels very ill and he is taken away in an ambulance and he bows out of Hell's Kitchen. The men are down one person.

The men continue on anyway. Hell's Kitchen opens and Elise pisses off Chef Ramsay straight away with her big mouth.Monterray messes up and gets yelled at. In the red kitchen, Elise hands up a terrible risotto to Chef Ramsay and he is disgusted. Krupa helps out. Steven is annoying the chefs in the blue kitchen. He is cooking too fast. Krupa gives Chef Ramsay a proper risotto and Elise is pissed off. The blue team is falling behind.
Chino gives Chef Ramsay a burnt piece of fish and everyone is annoyed at him. He is sent out of the kitchen and he has to peel loads of  garlic. Krupa goes from strength to strength. She is pretty good. Steven(pictured below) is slow in service and he holds everything up. He is sent out of the kitchen also. Tommy is sent out after his food is not up to scratch.

In the red kitchen, Carrie can't cook her food properly and she is holding up everything. Monterray messes up his garnish and gets shouted at. Elise is throwing her weight around and gets thrown out of the kitchen.
Brendan is on garnish now and he is being watched by everyone. He is standing over his potatoes which are burning. Paul and Brendan are at each other's throats. The customers are leaving Hell's Kitchen. They have to stop. Elise and Carrie shout at each other. Chef Ramsay tells them it was the worst opening to Hell's Kitchen ever. Brendan and Paul argue with each other. The men lose. They have to pick two and they choose Steven and Monterray. Chef Ramsay picks out another person: Chino. Steven is the one to leave. It is a good decision because he just wasn't up to it.

Dead on Site Movie Review 194

Dead on Site is a 2008 horror movie written, produced, directed and starring Scott Kenyon Barker. It stars a host of unknowns but Tiffany Shepis makes a guest appearance at the beginning as a security guard.

The movie begins with some killings as a couple of young women break down in a park. They are met by a security guard(Shepis) who tells them to get back into their car. Suddenly, a psycho comes out of the night and murders them all. Cut to a family in a house. The daughter is changing her clothes when she is attacked by same psycho and murdered. The rest of the family are killed too. The last one to die is the young kid who hides under a desk to get away, but it is too late for him....

Present day. Group of people are heading out into the middle of nowhere to film a school project about the killings in the house years ago. This spells trouble straight away! They are going to reenact the murders and broadcast them on the internet. Of course, you just know that it will all end up messy but let's go on..Deke(Robbie Daymond) has the camera and he is filming everything. They order pizza and when it arrives, the pizza guy starts talking to them about what happened in the house etc. They begin to film. One of the girls, Cody(Maggie Guzman) wonders what happened to the brother in the house the night of the killings. One of the group Marc(Christopher Burnham) has a criminal record making the others a little wary of him. He is in charge of the computers. They get a weird phone call telling them that they will all die. They ignore it.

Weird things happen such as a prop knife being real. Marc is under suspicion. He reveals his past. He shot a guy because he shot Marc's dog. They go back to making the movie. Deke tells a story about an outlaw who sold his soul to the Devil. At this point, people begin to get killed.  They continue to receive the phone calls from the person who threatens to kill their families if they try and leave.Marc goes missing and they wonder if he is the killer. The pizza guy shows up and he gets nasty. They call the police.  Everything goes wrong and people start dropping like flies. Deke goes missing also and the girls are left alone. They realise that the killer is not Marc, it is Deke. He is the reincarnation of Jacob, the outlaw who sold his soul. He attacks them and they try to escape. They manage to stab him in the eye and run off. He is still alive. The credits roll but there is a little bit at the end that shows the girls at work. They hear footsteps coming into their office and surprise, surprise, it is Jacob/Deke!!! I have included a picture of horror queen Tiffany Shepis who makes a brief cameo in this movie. Enjoy!

Not bad for such a low budget movie. It was good fun and I liked the little bit at the end. I would recommend it. I sometimes think that these straight to DVD movies can be better than the big studio movies, so if you like what you read, watch it!!!It gets a 5/10.

River of Darkness Movie Review 193

River of Darkness is a 2011 straight to DVD horror. Now, if you are a fan of the WWE, then some of the faces in this movie will be familiar to you. It stars Kurt Angle, Kevin Nash a.k.a. Diesel and Psycho Sid a.k.a. Sid Eudy. It is directed by Bruce Koehler.

The movie begins with a waitress being killed by a monster of a guy down by the water. The cops find the waitress hanging up at the riverside. Sheriff Will Logan(Angle) and his deputy have a look around but they don't find any clues. This theme runs throughout the movie. The Sheriff seems a bit clueless. Will is called to the church by the local priest who has the worst Irish/English/American accent I have ever heard. I don't know what they were going for, but it is all over the place! There is a weird lady called Mary(Alan Rowe Kelly) praying and telling them that there will be a river of blood etc etc. Nobody seems too bothered. More people are killed at the river. This time, we see that there are three killers and two of them are wrestlers(Psycho Sid and Diesel)!!!!!

Will goes to see an old guy called Virgil(Bingo O' Malley) who knows something but won't tell the Sheriff and it is like getting blood out of a stone trying to get him to talk. The Sheriff heads off with no information from the old guy and tries to solve the crime to no avail. The Sheriff sees the words 'HIX' carved on one of the victims and he returns to good old Virgil and this time he manages to get something out of him. Virgil tells him that there is a guy called Hix who lives in town. He tells the Sheriff that three brothers were accused of a rape in the town and the townsfolk took matters into their own hands even though there was no proof and they killed the brothers. Now, do you see what is happening? Three brothers, three killers from the dead!!! It all falls into place. They have come back for vengeance!

The three killers murder some paranormal investigators that arrive in town. They leave one of them alive. The locals get Hix and they drag him off and they intend to hand him over to the three dead guys as a little present. You see, it was HIX who raped that girl not the brothers and he is going to get his comeuppance. So, the Sheriff is in pursuit of the locals, but he just stands by and watches Hix being killed by the three dead souls. So the movie ends but before that we find out that the surviving paranormal investigator is the grandaughter of Hix and she hates him...Hmm. This movie was so bad that it was laughable. I think that there were some moments which were okay. The dead guys were entertaining and some of the acting was brutal. See it if you like the wrestlers because it has to be seen to be believed!!! This gets 3/10. Note: The cover of the DVD has Kurt Angle wearing some army gear and carrying a gigantic gun. NOWHERE in the movie did he change out of his Sheriff's uniform AND he did NOT have a gun like that in the movie so I don't know what the idea was with the cover ! Just thought that I would mention it!!!
