The Dark Tower by Stephen King- Amanda

I first found these books a few years ago. I had always read Stephen King since I was young and I didn't realise that he also wrote science fiction as well as horror. It is hard to class these books- some people see them as horror and some as science fiction. I think that they are very good and I worked my way through them all very quickly. The first one called The Gunslinger introduces us to Roland Deschain who is the last gunslinger in a place which seems to be a parallel universe to ours. He is chasing a man in black and this begins his journey and his search for the elusive Dark Tower. The books follow him on his trek and he meets plenty of characters along the way such as Jake Chambers,Eddie Dean,Susannah and more. All of these people are part of his journey and they are helping him to finish his quest. They are part of a 'ka-tet' which means that they all share the same destiny. There are seven books in all and they are well worth reading for any fantasy/sci fi fan.

I collected the lot and I couldn't put them down as they are brilliantly written and they are considered cult classics now. I think that the story of Roland and the Dark Tower is a mix between Lord of the Rings (which I also love)and Spaghetti Westerns. These books spanned four decades and Stephen King is very proud of them. I was a little disappointed in the end as I didn't believe that it finished well at all. I thought that the ending didn't do justice to the wonderful books which I loved. Maybe people disagree with me on this point, but I was disappointed.

For anyone who wants to read these books I will list them here:
1. The Gunslinger(1982)
2.The Drawing of the Three(1987)
3.The Waste Lands(1991)
4.Wizard and Glass(1997)
5.Wolves of the Calla(2003)
6.Song of Susannah(2004)
7.The Dark Tower(2004).
I hope that people will continue to read these classics and I would recommend them to anyone. I think that these books are a great mix of adventure and horror and sci fi and I will always consider them among the best of Stephen Kings novels.
