Warlock(1989)
I came upon this movie recently and decided to watch it as I like Julian Sands. I had read about it before and I am glad that I did. This movie is directed by Steve Miner who directed Friday the 13th Part 2 and 3 and House(1986).
The year is 1691 in Boston and a Warlock(Julian Sands) has been captured by witch-hunter Giles Redferne(Richard E. Grant). He is to be destroyed the next day for being evil and being in league with Satan. Of course, he is freed by his master and he is transported to modern- day L.A. Redferne has followed him as he cannot rest until he destroys the Warlock. Our Warlock arrives in L.A. and he crashes through a window into the house of Kassandra(Lori Singer) and her housemate. They take him in he repays them by killing the flatmate by biting his tongue off. He puts a spell on Kassandra so that she ages rapidly.
The Warlock asks his master why he is in this time and he is told that he has to collect pages from a book called The Grand Grimoire which contains a way to summon the find the true name of God and lead to uncreation of the world. Redferne comes to Kassandra and tells her all about it and they team up to try and find the warlock and reverse the spell that he put on her by taking her bracelet. She is worried at first that Redferne is mad, but when she sees the power of the Warlock for herself, she understands that he is dangerous. They decide to track him down and they find him in a farmhouse where the grandad is Amish and he recognises the signs of a Warlock. The three of them try to take him on, but it doesn't work. Kassandra succeeds in getting her bracelet back and so breaks the spell.
She is going to let Redferne go ahead on his own, but she feels bad and decides to join him until the end. They have to try and get the rest of the pages of the book before the Warlock so they try and beat him to it. They have to go to Boston to a church to find where the rest of the book is. The Warlock is not far behind them and they know that there is not much that they can do to put him off. They end up in a graveyard and they find the pages that they have been looking for. Of course, the Warlock is there and he is not going to give up without a fight. This movie is very entertaining. It is not very scary, but there are some great scenes with the Warlock and Redferne. I really enjoyed it and I think that I will watch the sequel soon. I will give this one a 7.5/10.
