Amityville 2: The Possession Movie Review 429

Amityville 2:The Possession is a 1982 horror prequel directed by Damiano Damiani and starring Burt Young and Diane Franklin

The movie begins with the Amityville house being sold to the Montelli family. There is the father, Anthony(Young), mother Dolores(Rutanya Alda), son Sonny(Jack Magner), daughter Patricia(Franklin) and two kids Mark and Jan. They think that this is the house of their dreams. There is tension between Sonny and his father. Anthony seems a bit volatile. Dolores is in the basement and it turns out that there is a tunnel inside there. It is creepy and smelly. We are shown that there is something down there and it has been unleashed. Things gets creepy in the house when things move around and windows open and close by themselves. Anthony thinks that it is the kids messing and he punishes them for it. Dolores wants help from the local priest, Fr. Adamsky(James Olsen).

Fr.Adamsky comes to bless the house and he meets Anthony who is not too happy to see a priest. He is not religious at all. The priest has to leave when Anthony tells him that he is not welcome. He goes back to his car and finds his bible ripped to pieces and his car door open. He is disturbed by this. At the house, tensions are high as Dolores is annoyed at Anthony's behaviour with the priest. Sonny and Patricia are very close to each other and it seems like there is something weird going on there. When the family have gone to church, Sonny is alone and he hears something in the house. He grabs his father's gun and goes to see what it is but what he finds is not human. There is something evil in the basement and it follows him up to his room where it enters his body and possesses him.

When the family arrive back home, Sonny goes to visit Patricia and they play a game which ends up with her nude and him having sex with her. Afterwards, she goes to see the priest and confesses that she has sex with someone but doesn't say that it is her brother. The priest is worried about her and the family.  He tries to bless the house but weird things happen and he stays away after that. Sonny starts acting weirdly and his face takes on a demonic look sometimes. There is something not right about him and his mother can see it. She discovers that something has been going on with her son and daughter. That night, Sonny hears voices telling him to kill his family. He kills everyone.

The cops come and arrest Sonny. Adamsky comes and he realises that there is something wrong with Sonny. He is possessed, He wants to get him exorcised but the church will not act on what he says. He decides to do it himself which leaves him open to danger. He gets Sonny at the house and he exorcises him but unfortunately, the demon goes into him instead. Sonny is okay and taken away by the cops and Father Adamsky is left with the demon inside. The Amityville house is put up for sale and this will lead to the original movie The Amityville Horror.

Let me start by saying that I liked this film. I know that it has received negative reviews but it is not that bad. If you compare it to the original movie, then it will pale in comparison of course. But, take is as a stand alone movie involving the Amityville house, then it isn't so bad. I liked the creepy feel here and I did like the story too. Maybe I am the only one, but I don't care. As the sequels went on, the quality decreased, as is often the way with sequels, but this one isn't as bad as you would think.
I will give it a 5/10.

The Woman in Black Movie Review 245

The Woman in Black is a 2012 horror movie based on a novel of the same name written by Susan Hill. It is directed by James Watkins and starring Daniel Radcliffe.

A young man called Arthur Kipps(Radcliffe) is a solicitor and he has to go to and oversee the estate of a Mrs. Drablow who has just died. The house is called  Eel Marsh House and it is a spooky large mansion. Arthurs wife died in childbirth and he thinks about her. He lives with his son and the nanny. When he reaches the island where the house is, the locals are very unfriendly and they tell him that he shouldn't go up to the house. One of them, Sam Daily(Ciaran Hinds) decides to be friendly and he and Arthur become friends. Sams wife is a bit crazy and she has some sort of visions. Arthur goes to he house and he hears and sees spooky things.

He sees a vision of a woman dressed in black and a whole story unfolds about a woman who lost her child and who has come back to steal all of the children in the village. The local children die in horrible ways and they blame Arthur for stirring up the woman in black. Arthur sees more visions of the children who died etc and he becomes shaken. He goes to look for the woman in blacks child who was lost in the marsh. He finds him and he brings him into the house to the woman in black. He buries the child and thinks that that is the end of it . He leaves the house and all is well. He meets his son who has come to meet him along with the nanny.
Unfortunately for Arthur, his son wanders onto the train tracks and he runs after him only to be run over by a train. They reunite with Arthurs wife and walk away. The woman in black is watching still lost in her grief....

This movie was okay. It was a bit slow and dull in parts. I thought that the scares were mediocre and it was just a little predictable. I wouldn't watch it again. Radcliffe wasn't bad as the lead, but all I could think was it is Harry Potter and the Woman in Black! It gets a 4/10.

The Legend of Hell House Movie Review 212

The Legend of Hell House is a 1973 horror movie directed by John Hough. It is based on the book Hell House written by Richard Matheson. It stars Roddy McDowall, Pamela Franklin and Clive Revill.

The movie begins with a Physicist called Lionel Barrett(Revill) who is called in by a eccentric millionaire to investigate the Belasco House or Hell House as it is known as. He thinks that there is something supernatural in the house and others have stayed there and not survived. His wife, Ann(Gayle Hunnicut) is coming with him along with a medium Florence Tanner(Pamela Franklin).Another medium, Ben Fischer(Roddy McDowall) is going too. Ben was in the house before with other mediums and he was the only one to get out untouched. They all meet and they enter the house for a few days. The house was built by a man called Emeric Belasco and he was reported to have been a huge looming figure with perversions and sick fantasies. His family were murdered in the house and he disappeared. Is his ghost still in the house????

There are many strange occurrences in the house after they enter. Florence is haunted by something which gets into bed with her. Ann is turned into a pleasure seeking temptress and she goes into a trance. She tries to seduce Ben and when he slaps her face, she comes to and has no idea what happened. There is something sinister about the chapel. Florence thinks that the evil might originate from there. Barrett is unconvinced and he doubts what she tells him. He thinks that there is electromagnetic energy in the house and that is what is causing things to move around etc. He has built a special machine to get rid of the unwanted energy and cleanse the house. Florence is sure that there is something evil in the house but she cannot get him to see sense.

Things go very wrong for Florence when the spirit actually hurts her and leaves marks on her skin. Something attacks Barrett and he begins to think that Florence is using the negative energy in the house to attack him. He tells her that she should leave the house, but she won't go. They find a skeleton behind a wall and think that it is Belasco. They bury it and hope that things in the house will go back to normal. But, they don't. Ben is attacked and he tells the group about his time in the house 20 years ago. He says that he was the only one not to suffer. His other friends all ended up crippled or scarred from their experience in the house. He wants to get Florence out before the spirit kills her. Barrett is going to use his machine and Florence isn't happy. She goes into the chapel, thinking that Belasco's dead son is calling her there. A huge crucifix falls on her, killing her. After this happens, Barrett turns on his machine and lets it do its work.

The three head outside while the machine goes. When it has finished, they go back inside to see if it has worked. Ben has to open himself up to the house and see if the evil has gone. Ben tells him it has, but he is wrong. Barrett gets blown up by his own machine. Ben and Ann go to the chapel and  Ben realises that it was Emerich Belasco haunting them all along. He was not the huge looming figure of legend, he was a small man who was illegitimate. He hid away in his house and preserved his body after death. The house is cleared and Ann and Ben leave. This movie is a gem which has not been given the recognition it deserves. It is very entertaining and spooky. I like haunted house movies and this is one of the best. It gets an 8/10.
