Step into my lair and enjoy....

Aaron Quicksilver(Lloyd) is a travelling showman who tells his strange tales to those he encounters on his travels. The movie begins with a newly-wed couple stranded on a road in the middle of nowhere. The husband goes off to look for help, leaving his bride in the car. Day turns into night and there is no sign of him. She begins to get worried and she wonders what has happened to him.A car comes along and a strange looking man gets out. It is Aaron Quicksilver and he offers to wait with her until her husband returns. She enters his house on wheels and sits down with him. He tells her a story called The Chattering Teeth which was written by Stephen King..
After a while, the hitcher starts to annoy him. He begins to light up a cigarette and Bill begins to get mad. The hitcher pulls a knife on Bill and wants the van and his money. Bill won't pull over and he acts crazy and crashes the van. They bot survive the crash but the hiker tries to kill Bill. The teeth begin to move on their own. Bill tells the teeth to bite the hitcher and the hitcher laughs at this. He is bitten on the nose by the teeth and he screams in agony as the teeth chew his fingers off and attack him. The teeth free Bill from his seat belt and he gets out of the van. They drag away the hikers body. We cut to nine months later and Scooter has passed away and his wife, Myra is running the place now. She remembers him and she gives him back the chattering teeth which turned up on the doorstep. Cut back to the abandoned bride and Aaron Quicksilver who see a car coming. It has hit somebody. It is the husband and he is dead. The teeth drag him off into the desert!
The second story is called The Body Politic and it is about hands that have a mind of their own. There is a pickpocket taking money from people at a fairground and he wanders into Quicksilver's tent where the latter shows him a hand which belonged to a dead man. He tells him that it is magic. He begins to tell the tale of a plastic surgeon who does surgery for rich people who really don't need it. He finds that his hands are beginning to move independently of him and that they seem to have a mind of their own. He finds out that they are trying to kill him so that they can be free of him.He speaks to his therapist about it. He goes home and the hands make him kill his wife. He can't stop them. He cuts one off. His hand goes on the run and it gets other hands to join in. People are cutting hands off everywhere. The hands go on the run. The hand wants to take over and the plastic surgeon won't let that happen. He goes up to the roof and the hands follow him. He throws himself off the building and the hands follow suit.
In the end, a woman is in bed in hospital when her nose begins to move by itself so she cuts it off and it all begins again! The pickpocket's hands begin to have a life of their own and they lead him to where there is a cop and he is arrested with the stolen money in his pockets. He tries to explain, but to no avail! This movie was interesting and I liked both the stories. Even though it was made for TV this movie is good and it is well worth watching. I will give it a 7/10.

The Night Flier(1997) was another movie adaptation, but I didn't like it much. Apt Pupil(1998) was not really a horror movie, but it was interesting and it starred Ian McKellen and Brad Renfro who is no longer with us. Storm of The Century(1999) was not based on a book or a novel but it was specially written by King himself for TV and I loved it despite some bad reviews I have read of it. The Green Mile(1999) was a really good movie based on the book by Stephen King and I really liked the story. It was sad, but hopeful at the same time. Michael Clark Duncan won an Oscar for this one and it was well-deserved. I liked Tom Hanks in it too. Hearts In Atlantis(2001) starred Anthony Hopkins and it was entertaining. Rose Red(2002) was a great mini-series and I really liked it. Dreamcatcher(2003) was a good movie starring Morgan Freeman,Thomas Jane and Jason Lee. Secret Window(2004) starred the always entertaining Johnny Depp and it is based on a short story. I liked it until the end which I felt went too far away from the original story, but on the whole, I liked it.

The first Stephen King penned movie was Carrie(1976) and I didn't love this movie, but it is a classic by now. Next we have Salem's Lot(1979) which starred Davis Soul which wasn't too bad. There were some creepy scenes in it. Next came The Shining(1980) which is a favourite of mine with a great performance by Jack Nicholson. Creepshow(1982) included some stories by Stephen King plus a cameo by him! Cujo(1983) is another fave of mine and it involves a rabid St Bernard dog..The Dead Zone(1983) had a good performance from Christopher Walken. A solid favourite of mine is John Carpenter's Christine(1983). The book was brilliant and the movie is brilliant too. There is something spooky about a car with a mind of its own...
That was followed by the nightmarish Children of the Corn(1984) with Linda Hamilton.Don't mess with those kids!!!Firestarter(1984) followed and it starred a young Drew Barrymore. Cats Eye(1985) wasn't one of my favourites, but it wasn't bad either. Silver Bullet(1985) stars a young Corey Haim and it is a real treat for any horror fan.. I really like that movie. Maximum Overdrive(1986) came out after that and, although it wasn't a smash hit, I always liked it and I still do. Stand By Me(1986) starred a very young River Phoenix, Wil Wheaton, Jerry O Connell and Corey Feldman and it was a bittersweet tale of friendship and a search for a dead body. It is a real classic.. Creepshow 2(1987) followed that. The Running Man(1987) starred Arnold Scwarzenegger and it was a sci-fi movie. Pet Sematary(1989) was about a graveyard for pets but it was not just an ordinary one... The pets seemed to come back to life, but they are not the same when they return..

The story begins with a school teacher called Tom Robinson(Bentley) and his wife, Elizabeth(Emmanuelle Vaugier). They are a happily married couple and Elizabeth is pregnant with their child. Then we meet baddie Dolan(Slater) who is doing deals with shady people and is involved with human trafficking. He is in the middle of murdering some people in the desert when Elizabeth witnesses what he has done. He sees her and traces her when she drops her mobile phone. She goes to the police to tell them what she has seen and they tell her that it is very hard to catch Dolan. He has buried the evidence in the desert and when the cops go there to find something, there is nothing to find. Tom and Elizabeth are told by the FBI agent Fletcher(Al Sapienza) that they can be protected 24 hours a day if Elizabeth testifies.
Elizabeth and Tom are in a hotel room for two months waiting for the chance to testify and when Elizabeth gets into her car, she is blown up by a bomb. Tom is consumed by grief and he goes to pieces. He knows that this was Dolan's doing, but there is nothing that he can do about it as Dolan is a powerful man with a lot of connections. He has henchmen to do his dirty work for him. He is protected by his armoured Cadillac.Tom buys a gun and he follows Dolan around, but Dolan catches him and his henchman beats Tom up. Tom needs another plan and he comes up with one. He gets a job working on the highways so that he will be able to complete his plan. He knows that Dolan's Cadillac will be passing along where he is working and he wants to set up his own detour to trap him.
So, on a weekend when the other workers are at home, he starts to set up his fake detour and Dolan drives into a huge pit that he has dug. One of his henchmen is killed and the other one is badly hurt so Dolan finishes him off. Dolan doesn't know what is happening at first, but he gets the idea after a while. He is horrified at the thought of being buried alive and he tries to get out by offering Tom money which doesn't work and by promising to go to the cops and give himself up which also doesn't work. Tom continues to taunt him and to remind him that he brought this on himself. Eventually, Dolan is covered up and Tom has his revenge that he has dreamt of for so long.....
Thad Beaumont(Hutton) is a writer who operates under the pseudonym of George Stark. He writes violent novels about a killer called Alexis Machine and people love them, but the novels he writes under his own name don't sell. He decides to get rid of the George Stark pseudonym once and for all and try writing under his own name. He stages a 'burial' for George and he poses for pictures at his 'grave'. But, George Stark doesn't want to be buried. He rises from his 'grave' and he decides to come after everyone who he thinks are responsible for burying him.
Thad begins to have nightmares and he gets a visit from the local Sheriff Pangborn(Rooker) who is investigating the death of a local man and who is suspicious of Thad. It seems that Stark has been leaving clues at the scenes of death and his fingerprints are the same as Thad's. This makes it very hard for Thad to deny any of it. He begins to black out and he begins to find notes in his own handwriting from Stark. He wonders why there is such a close link between him and Stark and he wonders why Stark seems so much like him.
The Sheriff discovers that Thad had an unborn twin who was implanted into his brain. When Thad was just a child, he had an operation to remove what the doctor's thought was a tumor, but which was later discovered to be parts of his twin. This explains why Stark is so close to Thad. Is Stark real or has Thad just created him in his own mind? Stark comes after Thad and his wife Elizabeth(Madigan) and he ties her up and waits for Thad to come home. He wants Thad to begin writing the violent books under his name again. Thad comes back and he finds Stark with his wife and kids. They have a confrontation and Thad wins out over George. A good movie, maybe the book was better, but it was a good adaptation anyway. I enjoyed this movie and I am going to rate it 7.5/10.

Charles Brady(Krause) and his mother Mary(Krige) move to a small town in Indiana. They are very close and there is something strange about them. Charles attends the high school and there he meets Tanya(Amick). He seems to like her a lot and they chat about art etc. They become friends and Tanya likes him too. Mary is not too happy with this development and it seems as though this is going to come between the mother and son. They seem a bit too close for a mother and son and there seems to be something strange going on between them. The two teens go on a date and they begin to kiss.Charles is not a normal teenager and he tries to suck the life out of Tanya. Tanya retaliates and hits him on the head with a camera, scratching his face and stabbing him in the eye.
What people don't know is that Charles and Mary are Sleepwalkers- shape shifting energy vampires who thrive on sucking the life out of others, mainly virgin girls. They can only be destroyed by cats who can see past their human facade and they can be killed by a scratch from a kitty cat! Meanwhile, Charles gets busted by a cop, but he manages to kill him. He goes back to Tanya leaving her hysterical. Unfortunately for Charles, the cop has a cat in his car with him and it attacks him and mortally wounds him. He manages to get back to his mother and she uses her powers to make them invisible when the cops come to bust them at their house. Mary tries to help her son, but he is too far gone.

There is a prologue at the beginning with a little boy,Billy who is in trouble with his dad for reading a comic called 'Creepshow' instead of doing his chores. He tosses the comic in the bin and he sends Billy to his room. Billy is sulking in his room when a ghostly figure taps at his window and calls him to come closer. This begins the first story called 'Father's Day'. A few years ago an old man called Nathan Grantham(Jon Lormer) is celebrating his birthday with his family and he calls for his cake when his daughter Bedelia(Viveca Lindfors) hits him over the head with an ashtray and kills him. Seven years later, the family gather together for a dinner of Father's Day when daddy dearest comes back from the dead for the cake that he didn't get and he dispatches his killer relatives one by one.
The next tale of terror is called 'The Lonesome Death of Jordy Verrill' in which Stephen King plays Jordy. He plays a backwards hick living on his own when he finds a meteorite. He thinks that he can make money from it but instead, plants start to grow from it and he begins to be covered in them no matter what he tries to do. He is eventually killed by it. The third tale of woe is titled 'Something To Tide You Over' and it stars Leslie Nielsen as a rich man who finds out his wife is cheating on him with some guy played by Ted Danson. He buries them in the sand up to their necks and he lets them drown when the tide comes in, but he is the one in for a shock when they return from the dead to get their revenge...... 'The Crate' is the fourth tale of terror and it is about a mysterious creature which has been locked in a crate as it is a killer. It is discovered by a professor, played by Hal Holbrook who sets it on his domineering wife played by Adrienne Barbeau.
This is a great movie and there are some great stories. I think that this is a cult classic. There is a sequel which was made in 1987 which I will review in a future post. I will give this one a 7/10.

This movie begins with a young boy called Brett Camber(Billy Jayne)whose only companion is a St. Bernard dog called Cujo. They are the best of friends and Cujo is a lovable dog. Brett's mother and father, Joe, don't get on very well and he spends most of his time with the dog. His mother decides to take him away for a holiday. Unfortunately, Cujo gets bitten by a rabid bat and contracts rabies. This is the beginning of the terror. Joe's neighbour is killed by the rabid dog and before he can get help, he is killed too.
Meanwhile, Donna Trenton(Dee Wallace)and Vic Trenton(Daniel Hugh Kelly) have problems of their own. She has been caught having an affair and they argue. Vic has to leave and go on a business trip, leaving Donna and her son, Tad(Danny Pintauro) on their own. As Joe was a mechanic, Donna takes her car to his farm for repairs but she can't find him anywhere. The car won't start and they see Cujo coming towards them. Instead of the usually friendly dog is a monster who wants to attack them. They flee into the car and this begins a siege which lasts for days.
Tad and Donna are trapped in the heat inside the car and Tad gets very ill. Donna tries to escape but the dog won't let her. The sheriff comes to help them, but Cujo kills him too. Vic calls Donna and he is very worried when she doesn't answer the phone so he comes home and tracks them down to the farm where they are trapped in the car. He tries to help them. Donna eventually kills Cujo with a baseball bat and they escape. In the book, Tad dies, but in the movie, he survives after his mother gives him CPR.
