Children Shouldn't Play With Dead Things Movie Review

Trailer here.

Children Shouldn't Play With Dead Things is a 1972 horror movie directed by Bob Clark and starring Alan Ormsby.

The film begins with a man who digs up a corpse. Cut to a group of people who are going to an island. They are actors and a man called Alan(Ormsby) is their leader. They go to a graveyard on the island and they hear noises. There are creatures watching them. The group heads to a cottage. Alan knows all about the island. The group are going to spend the night there. One of the group, Anya, wants to see a ghost. Alan has a chest full of satanic stuff and h e tells the group that they are his employees and that  they are going to summon to undead. He has a book of spells ready for the occasion. They go into the graveyard and they dig up a corpse. It attacks them but it's just a joke by Alan and two friends, Roy and Emerson.
Alan does have a real corpse with him. He is the man who dug up the body at the start of the movie. The corpse is called Orville. The group use him in a ceremony. Alan wants to raise the dead.

Alan summons Satan but nothing happens. He is disgusted and a woman called Val performs the rites instead. Everyone thinks it's a joke. Alan takes Orville back to the cottage. He doesn't realise it, but corpses are starting to rise, for real. Some of the group mess with Orville and others don't think that it is funny at all. One of them called Anja tells them that they shouldn't be messing with the corpse. She is upset by it. She is convinced that Orville is evil. Alan doesn't care. Roy and Emerson are the first to be attacked by the real undead. Alan is left alone by the others who are going to leave. They see what is left of Roy and he warns them. They see a horde of undead and they have to go back to the cottage and barricade themselves in.

A plan is needed. One of the group, Paul, says that he might be able to get past them. The others distract the reanimated while Paul sneaks out the back. He gets munched, though. The others are getting attacked. Alan searches for a counter spell to put the dead back into their graves. He chants some spell and it seems to work. The group run for the boat but the undead catch them. They get eaten alive. Alan and Anya are left. They go to the cottage but the zombies follow. Alan throws Anya to them and he locks himself into a bedroom. Orville reanimates and he  kills Alan. The rest of the horde go to the boat and set sail...

This is a weird film and a very cheaply made one. There are some interesting moments in it and it is well made for such a low budget film. Bob Clark is responsible for this and he also directed Black Christmas. This isn't as good as that film but it is worth a look because it is considered a cult classic. I will give it 5/10,

Open Grave Movie Review 338

Open Grave is a 2013 horror movie starring Sharlto Copley, Thomas Kretschmann,Erin Richards and Joseph Morgan. It is directed by Gonzalo Lopez-Gallego.

The movie begins with a man who cannot remember who he is. He wakes up in a giant pit full of dead bodies. He is rescued by a mute Asian woman(Josie Ho) who throws down a ladder to him. He goes with her to a house where he finds other people. There is Lukas(Kretschmann), Nathan(Morgan), Sharon(Richards) and Michael(Max Wrottesley). They are suspicious of him and he of them. None of them can remember what happened to them so they have to find answers.

The movie goes on that way for a while and they wonder what is going on. There are zombies around and they find out that they were all a team of scientists who were working on a cure for a plague which has killed most of the world's population and turned the rest into zombies. Jonas(Copley) was the doctor who was performing experiments. He tried to help the people who have now turned into zombies. He discovers that he had a vaccine and he gave it to all of them but it causes temporary memory loss. He starts to recall what happened before he awoke in the pit. They all start to remember. Lukas becomes infected and he turns on Jonas as he thinks that he was hurting him, not helping him with the vaccine.  He dies and Michael dies when he is attacked by a zombie.

It all comes to an end when the army arrives and starts killing the zombies and anyone else they see.
Sharon, Jonas and Asian woman escape. Jonas and Sharon hide in the pit but Sharon has been infected and she dies. Jonas had taken the vaccine but he cannot remember what happened and does not remember Sharon. He is once again saved by the Asian woman who is immune to the virus so they will try and come up with a cure. They look at all the dead bodies lying in pits as they head off on their way.

This was an okay movie. It was interesting, but there is nothing special about it. The cast was quite good and it is worth a look. I will give it a 5/10.

The Walking Dead Season 2, Episode 11

We left Rick and Shane driving back to the house with Randall in the boot in the last episode. Episode 11 begins with  Daryl interrogating Randall and giving him a good hiding. Randall tells him that there is around 30 people in the group and that some of the guys in the group went around raping girls. He begs Daryl for mercy. Rick decides that the best thing to do is to kill him. He could lead his group back to the farm otherwise and all hell would break loose. Dale thinks that they shouldn't do it and goes around trying to convince everyone in the group to show mercy to Randall. Shane talks to Andrea about taking charge of the group and overthrowing Rick as the leader. Randall listens to this conversation. Carl goes into the barn and talks to Randall and when Shane catches him, he is furious. Carl takes Daryl's gun and runs into the woods and finds a walker who he teases as the walker is stuck in the mud. The walker gets loose and Carl drops the gun and runs home, telling nobody about the gun.

Dale is on his misson of mercy trying to get people to agree with him about Randall. They all have a meeting and most people agree with Rick about killing Randall. Dale freaks out and gives a speech about humanity. Rick, Daryl and Shane are going to execute Randall when Carl shows up and messes everything up. Rick then decides to spare Randall. Dale gets attacked by a walker and he is almost dead. Daryl has to shoot him in the head which he does. Carl realises that this is the same walker he was teasing earlier and he could have shot him but he didn't.This episode was not too bad. I have to say that I never really liked the character of Dale and he irritated me in this episode. Randall is a danger to the group and as such, he should have been killed to protect everyone, but Rick couldn't stand up and make the decision. He let himself be weak once again. I have a feeling that there will be a showdown between Shane and Rick and I don't see Shane lasting much longer in the series. I hope that I am wrong!!!

The Walking Dead, Season 2, Episode 10

Episode 10 begins with Rick and Shane trying to get away from the walkers. Cut back to Rick and Shane talking about Otis and what happened. Rick figures out that Shane left Otis behind. Rick tells Shane that the baby is his and Laurie is his wife. He tells him that that won't change. He tells him that he will protect them any way he can. He wants to make plans for the coming winter. They have Randall in the boot of their car. They are trying to think of what to do with him. Rick tells Shane that he thinks they should use knives to kill the walkers to save ammo. They haul Randall from the car and are going to dump him when he tells them that he used to go to school with Maggie who is part of their group.

Shane wants to kill him but Rick stops him. They argue over him and then get into a fist fight. That brings on the walkers and the place is overrun with them. Shane is chased by them. Randall is tied up on the ground. There is a knife near him and he tries to get it. Shane gets stuck inside a schoolbus and it is packed outside with walkers. He has a knife and things are looking pretty bleak for him. Randall gets free and meets Rick. They see Shane inside the bus and Randall urges him to go with him and leave Shane. Rick goes but he finds the bodies of two cops and he thinks of Shane, his friend. He goes back and manages to save Shane. They get away and Rick tells him that he needs him to back him up as leader of the group. They put Randall back in the boot and go home.

A good episode mostly. There is a split coming and I think that the newcomer Randall is not as innocent as he seems. I think that he will cause trouble. That's my opinion!

The Walking Dead, Season 2, Episode 7

This is the final episode in this first half of the second season. Why they have to break it into two, I do not know. It really annoys me that we have to wait until next year for the second half of the season!

Glenn is struggling with his news that the walkers are living in the barn. He has told Dale and Dale tells him that he should inform the others which he eventually does. Maggie is not happy with him. Shane is furious and he wants to exterminate them immediately or get the hell out. Rick argues with him that they can't leave without finding Sophia and Shane tells him that she is dead or else they would have found her before now. Rick wants to get rid of the walkers, but he needs to talk to Hershel first to get his backing. Hershel is not happy with what Rick tells him and he wants them gone. Rick has no choice but to tell him that Lori is pregnant and that they can't leave now. Rick spills the beans to Shane too and Shane is shocked.

Hershel asks Rick to come with him to the woods where there are walkers stuck in a swamp. He asks Rick to help him to rescue them and bring them back to the barn. Rick has no choice but to agree as he wants to keep staying in the house. Shane goes mad when he finds out that Dale went off with a bag of guns and nobody knows where. Shane runs after him, determined to get them back. He finds him preparing to bury them and he gets them back. Dale thinks that Shane is dangerous. Shane doesn't care. When he arrives back at the camp and sees Rick and Hershel with the new walkers, he shoots them dead and he opens the barn and unleashes the rest of them who are gunned down by the others. One more walker comes out of the barn and it is a child- Sophia! None of them can bring themselves to kill her so Rick takes aim and kills her. Everyone is shocked and horrified.

This was a great episode. I like the way that Shane is becoming another leader and I think that there will be a split in the camp with Rick and Shane being the two leaders now. I think that Shane's character is very good and I like Daryl too. That is it until next year, unfortunately!!!

Lori is not comfortable with it. Glenn spills his guts to Dale about the walkers and Lori. Dale has a word with Hershel about the walkers and Hershel tells him that he won't kill them. Some of them are family members etc. Lori thanks Hershel for everything and he tells them that they need to leave soon. Lori talks to Rick and tells him that she doesn't want to go. Dale talks to Lori about the baby. Glenn and Maggie go into town for more supplies for Lori. They get attacked and Glenn kills the walker. Maggie has words with Lori when they return. The rope almost breaks and Glenn is frightened, but they manage to get him out. The walker is pulled out of the well, but his rotten body breaks in half and contaminates the water supply. Meanwhile, Daryl is searching for Sophia. He comes upon a house and he sees that someone has been hiding there. He can't find anything else and he arrived back empty handed. He brings back a flower for Carol and tells her that he will not give up looking. Glen and Maggie reach a pharmacy and they get some stuff. They decide to have sex also! The Walking Dead, Season 2, Episode 3

This week's episode begins with Shane shaving his head. He looks disturbed. Cut to Shane and Otis running from the walkers. Rick and Lori are waiting for them to return. Daryl and Andrea are still looking for Sophie. Shane and Otis are in trouble. Otis tells Shane he will try and distract them so Shane can get out with the respirator. Otis runs off and Shane jumps out of the window, hurting his leg. He hears gunshots. Meanwhile, T-Dog and Glenn reach the doctors house where they meet Rick and Lori.

Lori and Rick talk and Lori wonders if Carl is better off dead because of the horrible world that they are now living in. Rick is horrified. Shane and Otis battle their way through the walkers. Carl wakes up and he is in a bad way. He has a seizure and he needs more blood. The doctor wants to operate on Carl as he can't wait much longer for Shane and Otis to return. Otis and Shane are still on the run and they are running out of bullets. As the doctor tells Rick and Lori he needs to operate, Shane shows up, alone. He says Otis is dead. The doctor performs his operation and Carl is stable afterwards.

We cut back to Shane and Otis and we find out that they were desperate, running out of bullets. They were really in trouble and Shane decided to shoot Otis and leave him for the walkers. Otis wasn't going down quietly and he left a mark on Shane. Shane beats Otis and throws him to the walkers as he escaped. The episode closes with Shane shaving his hair off.  This was a good episode and it leaves me wondering about Shane. Is he a good or a bad guy????

Another episode of The Walking Dead is upon us and it is getting better and better as it goes along.

This week, Rick and the others are shocked by the shooting of Carl. The guy who shot him tells Rick where to go to get help. It turns out that he is called Otis and he is one of another group of survivors who live in a large house. There is a doctor there. Rick reaches the house with Otis and Shane. The people in the house take the boy and try to help him. Lori is with the other group looking for Sophia in the woods. She heard the shot, but they think that it was Rick shooting a walker or something like that. Lori isn't so sure. Dale is with T-Dog who is suffering because of an injury he sustained. His arm is getting infected and Dale tells him that they need antibiotics for it.

Meanwhile, Rick is upset at the house. Carl is very close to death and Rick blames himself for bringing him with them . Carl needs blood and Rick is the right type. The doc has to remove the bullet fragments from Carl but he doesn't have the right equipment for it. Shane and Otis offer to go and get it from the local high school medical centre. They pull across the grating and lock the doors, but this isn't going to keep them out for long!!!!!A very good episode. It is good to see some more survivors coming into it and it will shake things up.

Night of the Creeps Movie Review 188

Night of the Creeps is a 1986 horror movie directed by Fred Dekker and it stars Jason Lively and Tom Atkins.

The movie begins with aliens on a ship in outer space. They are trying to make sure an experiment of theirs does not escape off of their spaceship, but it does and it crashes to earth. Then, we cut to an escaped axe murderer in 1959 who kills a young woman. Her boyfriend finds the canister from outer space and some parasite jumps into his mouth. Cut to present day and some college kids are having fun. Chris(Jason Lively) and his buddy J.C.(Steve Marshall) are trying to get into a fraternity and they have to get a corpse and dump on on the steps of another  house. They enter the morgue where they find a guy in suspended animation and they are amazed. They accidentally let him out and when he seems to come to life, they run away scared. He is the same guy who was infected with some parasite in 1959. The body disappears when the cops come. Detective Ray Cameron(Atkins) is investigating.

The movie takes off from there in a way you could predict. The little parasites are infecting the college kids and all hell breaks loose. There is also another story going on about the return of the axe murderer. Has he come back? We find out that Ray was a cop back in 1959 and his high school sweetheart was the young woman murdered by the axe killer. Also, there is a romance going on between Chris and the object of his affection, Cynthia(Jill Whitlow). Ray has to try and get rid of the parasites with Chris and Cynthia's help. The ending of the movie is Ray burning down a frat house to get rid of the parasites and he dies. Chris and Cynthia kiss. Along comes a dog and it is infected starting the infestation again. There is an alternate ending in which Ray emerges from the house infected and he collapses, spilling parasites all over the place. The aliens are coming to earth to clean up their mess...

This movie is a classic low budget horror movie which mixes a lot of themes like zombies, aliens, axe murderers and a romance thrown in. It is good fun and it is a classic in its own way. I give it a 6/10.

The Walking Dead, Season 1, Episode 6

Last week, the survivors arrived at the CDC and were allowed in by a mysterious man.....

This week's episode begins with a flashback to when Shane was at the hospital as the outbreak began. He tries to get Rick out of the hospital, but it is overrun with Walkers. He left Rick, assuming that he was dead. There are military guys storming the hospital, shooting anything that moves so he has to get out. Cut back to the CDC and the survivors led by Rick. They enter the building and they meet the stranger who is Dr.Edwin Jenner(Noah Emmerich). He is a bit suspicious of them and their intentions at first. He agrees to let them stay if they consent to a blood test to  make sure that none of them have the virus. The place that he inhabits is called Zone 5 and he is the only survivor in the building. He gives them food and drink and they all relax for a while.

He tells them about what happened as the outbreak began. A lot of people committed suicide and some of the others tried to escape. Lori and Shane fall out once again and she scratches his face with her nails. The next, morning they wonder how he got them, but he explains it away. The doctor takes them to his lab and he shows them his research on a Walker. They see that the brain is infected and he shows them how the brain dies but regenerates without the human part. Jenner tells them that his fuel has run out and that the place will be in darkness soon.He wants to give up and kill himself. Zone 5 begins shutting itself down and the survivors are trapped with Jenner who tells them that it will better if they all stay and just blow up with the building.

Rick is not willing to give up and neither are some of the others. Andrea begins to give up too. She is upset after her sister's demise and she doesn't think that there is anything left. They discover that Jenner's wife was bitten and that she was the test subject that he showed them earlier. He cannot go on so he lets them out, but stays himself. Another of the survivors stays with him. Andrea wants to stay too but she is convinced to leave. Before Rick leaves, Dr. Jenner whispers something in his ear which we cannot hear! They escape by blowing out the windows withe a grenade that Rick swiped from the tank at the beginning of the series. They are out when the whole building explodes.....

The first season of The Walking Dead was brilliant. I really enjoyed it. It is a well made, interesting and exciting series. We haven't seen too many of these great shows and I am really looking forward to the second season. Bring it on!!!!

The Walking Dead TV Show Trailer

This is the trailer for the upcoming TV series called The Walking Dead. It is based on the comic books of the same name. It is due out in October in the U.S. and I am not sure when it is going to air over here, but I am sure that it will turn up sooner or later. Watch the trailer and see what you think. It is about time there was a good horror themed tv show not about vampires. A zombie TV show sounds great to me and I will be reviewing it once I watch the pilot! Meanwhile, take a look at the trailer and salivate!!!!

Dawn of The Dead(Original) Movie Review 107

Dawn of The Dead was released in 1978 and it was directed by George A. Romero who also directed Night of The Living Dead which I have reviewed here. This is the second movie in the series and this movie is streets ahead of the remake. It was produced by Claudio Argento, brother of horror genius Dario Argento. There is also music in it from Dario Argento's band, Goblin. It stars David Emge, Ken Foree,Scott H Reiniger and Gaylen Ross.

The action begins in a world where a plague has broken out and infected a huge majority of human beings who are then turned into meat-seeking zombies who have no mind, just a hunger for flesh. Stephen(Emge) and Francine(Ross) work at a television station and they are planning to fly away from all of the horror in a helicopter. The movie cuts to a guy called Roger(Scott H Reiniger) who is a part of a SWAT team and he meets Peter(Foree) and they decide to get away from the zombies and escape to somewhere new. They meet Francine and Stephen and they go to a deserted shopping mall to get away. They lock themselves in and they try and find some food and supplies as they fight their way through the endless zombies.

They get guns and bullets and they also treat themselves to stuff from all of the stores in the mall. They have a little area upstairs which they make their base. We find out that Francine is pregnant and the team wonder what they are going to do with her. She tells them that she doesn't want to be treated any differently. She wants to leave the shopping mall and go somewhere else but the others want to stay in the mall as they have everything that they need. They stay there for some time but Roger gets bitten and he has to be killed by Peter as he comes back to life as a zombie. Stephen also gets bitten and he has to be put down. Francine and Peter decide that they need to escape, but Peter decides that he will stay and fight only to change his mind at the last minute and join Francine in the helicopter as she flies away...

This was a very entertaining movie and I liked it a lot. I would watch it again and I am going to watch and review the last movie in the series, Day of the Dead soon....This gets an 8/10 .
