The Hills Have Eyes(1977)- Amanda's Faves

Well, I'm back again with another heart-warming favourite of mine- The Hills Have Eyes(1977).
This little gem is directed by a firm favourite of mine, Wes Craven. This is one of my favourite films of all- time. It has everything in it- cannibals, eerie music, family stuck in the middle of nowhere. This movie begins with a family travelling in a mobile home. There is dad and mom, three kids- Bobby, Brenda and Lynne(Dee Wallace), Lynne's husband,Doug and their baby. They decide to take a short cut through the desert, despite a warning from some old guy not to do it.

Of course, they break down and they are stranded in the middle of nowhere with no help. Little do they know there are cannibals prowling the area looking for fresh meat. They spot the helpless family and they decide to wait for their opportunity to pounce. They are called Jupiter, Mars and Pluto(Michael Berryman). The rest of the movie is a cat and mouse game. Dad goes off to get help and ends up crucified. Mom is murdered. The survivors try to outwit the cannibals and Lynne is murdered.

Doug goes on the run with the baby and is helped by a female cannibal. Bobby and Brenda outsmart the weirdos and kill them(supposedly). Doug and baby survive as do Brenda and Bobby. This film was one of Craven's best. His later films were okay but they didn't have the edge and suspense that this one has. Along with Last House on the Left(1972), this is Craven at his best. More films soon, bye bye......
