Don't Look Now(1973)

This movie is a firm favourite of mine. The story is not the typical horror movie in that there isn't any monster as such. There is a sense of foreboding throughout and you just know that something horrible is going to happen which it does at the end. The story begins with a couple, John Baxter(Donald Sutherland) and his wife Laura(Julie Christie). They are living in Venice where John is working as an architect. They seem like a normal couple, but they have suffered a terrible loss. Their daughter has died in a horrible drowning accident. They are not sharing their grief and this has put a strain on their marriage. Laura befriends two psychic sisters who tell her that they know about what happened to her daughter. She is intrigued by this.

John is not so keen and he distrusts them. There is also a serial killer moving through the streets of Venice and this serves as a subplot. One of the sisters, Heather(Hilary Mason) is blind and she tells Laura that she can make contact with her dead daughter. John is very reluctant to hear what they have to say and he keeps seeing a child-like figure in the same red coat his daughter was wearing when she died. He tries to follow it, but he can never find it. He begins to feel as if something is wrong with him and he sees that Laura is obsessed with the two psychics.
He has visions which disturb him and he thinks that he is going insane. Eventually, he follows the figure in red to a bell tower where he is confronted with it, much to his horror! He realises that his premonitions were not what he assumed. I don't want to give away the end! I recommend anyone to check this movie out. It is creepy and tense. I would give it a 10/10.
