The Hills Run Red Movie Review 111

The Hills Run Red  is a low-budget straight-to-DVD horror but it isn't too bad. It is directed by Dave Parker and it stars Sophie Monk and William Sadler (of Roswell fame).

The movie begins with some kid cutting up his own face and sewing on a mask. Then we cut to Tyler(Tad Hilgenbrink) who is a horror movie fan and he has found out about this lost movie called 'The Hills Run Red' which was directed by Wilson Concannon (Sadler) who disappeared after he made it. The movie has disappeared too and it was considered too violent for cinemas when it was released years ago.Tyler finds a trailer for it on the internet and he wants to find out more about it. He ropes in his friend Lalo(Alex Wyndham) and Serina (Janet Montgomery) who is meant to be his girlfriend but she is messing around with Lalo. Tyler finds Concannon's daughter, Alexa(Monk) and he asks her about her dad. It turns out that she is a mess and a drug addict. He helps her kick the habit and then the four of them journey to find out more about the obscure movie.

They visit the various locations of the movie and Alexa fills them in with what she can remember from her childhood. They talk to various people and Tyler puts everything on camera. They set off for the woods where Wyndham's house was and Tyler hopes to find a print of the movie there. Wyndham's house is out in the middle of nowhere. The group are attacked by some locals while they are in the woods and out comes the killer from the movie, Babyface. It turns out that he is real!!! The kids are tied up and Babyface looks at Alexa. She runs and he follows her. The others get free and try to find Alexa. Tyler reaches the house and he looks around. He finds Alexa tied up and he resuces her. Babyface returns and everything goes haywire!I am not going to give away the ending so you will have to watch it to see what happens....

This movie was okay. There were some good scenes and it was enjoyable for a murder-by-numbers movie.
There are no surprises here and you should only watch this if you like a gory horror movie with some boobs thrown in..Enjoy the picture of Sophie Monk above.... This movie gets a 5/10.

Amanda's Horror Years- 1993

So, I am back again with some choice horror movies from another year. This time I have delved back in time to......1993! This was not a brilliant year for horror, but there are some movies which stand out. As always, let me know your favourites....

Firstly, let me begin with some of the better movies from this year. Needful Things is based on the novel of the same name by horror master Stephen King. It is about a little town which is intrigued by a newcomer who opens his shop. What they don't know is that the owner is evil and he gives them what they want, but they have to pay a terrible price...I like this movie and this brings me to another movie based on a novel by Stephen King called The Dark Half. This movie stars Timothy Hutton and it is based around a writer who tries to get rid of a character from his novels. He gets a shock when his creation comes back to life and he isn't happy about being axed! The third Stephen King creation was The Tommyknockers. This stars Jimmy Smits and it is about a strange green glow which begins to draw all of the locals to the woods and strange things beging to happen...Leprechaun was released in this year too and it starred Warwick Davis as the walking cliche!!This movie also starred Jennifer Aniston

Some of the other highlights of this year were: Dario Argento's Trauma, Full Eclipse, Body Bags,Ticks. There were some sequels this year too beginning with Children of The Corn 2, Puppet Master 4, Witchboard 2, Jason Goes To Hell: The Final Friday, When A Stranger Calls Back and Amityville:A New Generation, Return of The Living Dead 3. So many horrors to choose from! Let me know if you think that you have a movie that should be recommended from this year. I like to find new horror movies to watch!!!

Amanda's Classic Movies- Wild At Heart (1990)

I am a David Lynch fan so obviously I am going to like his movies. You either love him or hate him, I think and I love him. He is the man who gaves us Twin Peaks, my favourite TV series of all time. So, I want to honour this movie which I also love called Wild At Heart. It stars Laura Dern and Nicholas Cage alongside a standard David Lynch cast ensemble..Also, there is some great music from Chris Isaak. It is based on a novel of the same name written by Barry Gifford...

This movie begins with Sailor(Cage) being released from jail after being sent there for killing a man in self-defence. The man had been hired by his lover Lula(Laura Dern)'s mother Marietta(Diane Ladd). Lula is there to meet him outside the prison and they drive off together. Lula hands him his snakeskin jacket and they go to a motel and catch up...They go out and have fun and Sailor serenades her with an Elvis song.. They decide to go to California, despite the fact that Sailor will break his parole.Lula's mother is not happy and she hires a private eye, Johnny( Lynch favourite Harry Dean Stanton) and tells him to get her daughter home by any means necessary.Unfortunately, Marietta hires a mobster to track them too and she wants him to kill Sailor.

The two lovers are driving and having a good time together. They come  upon an accident and they witness a young woman (Sherilyn Fenn) die after she stumbles from the car wreck. This sobers them and they head for Big Tuna, Texas where Sailor knows a pal called Bobby(Willem Dafoe). Lula is pregnant and she doesn't know how to tell Sailor. She finds out that Sailor has agreed to go along with the dodgy Bobby on a robbery. Sailor goes and finds out that Bobby has been sent to kill Sailor which he tries to do, but the cops come in time and Bobby accidentally shoots himself. Sailor gets five years in prison. Lula has to have the child on her own and raise it while Sailor is away. Her mother disappears..

So, cut to five years later and Sailor is being released from jail and Lula and their son is there to meet him. He decides that he is not good enough to be with them and proceeds to walk away from therm, but gets knocked out by a gang(!) This makes him see a good witch(played by Laura Palmer herself- Sheryl Lee). She makes him change his mind and he runs over cars to get to Lula.  He serenades her with another Elvis tune and they kiss....I love this movie and I think that it is weird and wonderful. The two main characters were very good as the star crossed lovers and Diane Ladd was great as the demented mother...A great movie which gets a 10/10 every time.

It also has a cast including Ralph Fiennes, Pete Postlethwaite and Danny Huston. It is a remake of the 1981 movie of the same name.
