2011 Remakes and Rumours...

It seems as if every year, there are more and more remakes of movies, especially in horror. I guess that there aren't too many original ideas floating around in Hollywood. It occurs to me that the lower budget, straight to DVD horrors can be better than these big blockbuster crappy movies. I trawled through the net looking for some remakes. Some of them might not yet happen, but I am going to include them anyway.....So, have a look and let me know your feelings about these 're-imaginings' of our favourite movies! If I have already mentioned some of these, I apologise!

Firstly, there were rumours of a remake of the classic 1981 movie An American Werewolf in London. I watched this recently and I don't like the thought of anyone messing with it. The classic Angel Heart starring Mickey Rourke and Robert De Niro is also supposed to be remade..Ugh....Alfred Hitchcock's The Birds is going to be desecrated also..The Psycho remake comes to mind...Shudder....Rob Zombie is going to remake another classic horror The Blob. So does that make it a remake of a remake? Cronenberg's The Brood is set to be remade. Oh I just can't wait for that one...NOT!

Remember Child's Play? Well, you will be seeing a whole new version of this killer doll horror movie. When, I don't know yet, but just knowing that it is coming is enough....Another Cronenberg classic, Videodrome is set to be remade too. Is nothing sacred? Dario Argento's Deep Red is another classic movie being modernised or whatever they call it. I hear that George A Romero might be directing it, so it could be okay, but with Suspiria being re imagined also, I have my doubts...Fright Night was a tongue in cheek horror movie and it was a lot of fun, now it will be remade for the teens....Clive Barker's Hellraiser is going to hit our screens next year. I think that I can wait...I suppose I come across as hating all remakes, but it is just that when you love a movie and enjoy it and then they take the story and they dumb it down and make it 3D for young pop corn eating kids, then it does irritate me.

I wouldn't mind as much if they actually took care with these movies and try and be faithful to the originals, but they just plonk in a few teens and change characters and ruin everything that made the movie original and fresh. It ends up just like all of the other crud that is released. Rant over, I will get back to the endless remakes.Stephen King's IT is rumoured to be in for a reworking but no definates on that yet. Scanners is another Cronenberg movie that will be remade as far as I know as will They Live originally directed by John Carpenter. So, if this list of movies being reworked annoys you as much as it does me, then just do what I do. Put on the originals and ignore these crappy remakes....Maybe I will be surprised by some of these new offerings, but somehow, I doubt it....Let me know your thoughts on it....

Skeleton Crew Movie Review 170

Skeleton Crew is a 2009 Finnish horror movie directed by Tommi Lepola and Tero Molin.

The movie begins with a girl called Lisa(Rita Suomalainen) who gets out out of a crashed car. She is hurt. She pulls out her boyfriend from the car. He is badly injured and needs help. She walks to a hospital in the middle of nowhere and there is a camera filming her. She knocks at the door and a nurse answers. She arranges help for her boyfriend and he is brought into the hospital and a doctor appears. He is Doctor Anderson(David Yoken) and he is going to operate on the boyfriend. Lisa is tended to by the nurse as she waits for news.It is a mental institution and Lisa is spooked. She hears a scream, but the nurse tells her that it is normal..The hospital is over 100 years old and there are almost 100 patients. Lisa sees a video camera and a lot of movie reels. She has to stay there overnight as her boyfriend's operation was a success but he needs rest. She wakes from her sleep and wanders around the hospital. She finds her boyfriend who has been butchered by the doctor. He tells her to escape. Suddenly, we see that this is not real life, but just a movie...

Lisa is a character in the movie and it is called Silent Creek. The movie is based on actual events. A mad doctor killed people and filmed it in the hospital. The crew are working when they hear something. They go to investigate and they find a sealed room. There are loads of movie reels in it. They look at them and realise that they are snuff movies. The director, Steve(Steve Porter) wants to watch them. The rest of the crew are freaked out by it. They don't call the cops because they all need the money the movie will make them.Steven gets carried away with the torture scenes in his movie. He has been watching the snuff movies and it is having an effect on him.Next day, Stephen orders one of his actors to do a torture scene and he gives him a drill telling him that it is fake. Unfortunately, it is real and an actress gets hurt. The rest of the movie consists of Steven going insane and killing the rest of the crew and filming it.

This movie wasn't great, to be honest. I just didn't really like it. It started off fine, but near the end, it just wasn't fun anymore. But, it is good to see some European horror movies, I guess. I will give it a 4/10

Amanda's Horror Years-1990

I'm back with another year of horror movies for you to peruse and enjoy. This time, I have chose the year 1990. I can remember this year well and there were plenty of good movies to chose from.

I am going to begin with my favourites.Misery was released in this year and it was a hit. It was based on the novel of the same name by Stephen King. It was a real thriller/horror movie and it is a classic in my opinion. Arachnophobia is another classic movie, even though it is kind of comedy/horror. It is a lighthearted movie and if you hate spiders, as I do, it is scarier than a lot of gruesome movies!!!Read my review of that here.Another Stephen King horror movie was IT. I read the book first and loved it. The movie was good, though not a match for the novel..If you don't like clowns, then this movie isn't for you! A remake of the classic Night of the Living Dead surfaced this year and you either like it or you don't. I would prefer the original  I have to say, but it's up to you which you like.

More horror movies released were The Ambulance which starred Eric Roberts, A Cat in the Brain from Lucio Fulci, Darkman from Sam Raimi, Jacobs Ladder, Flatliners, Spontaneous Combustion from Tobe Hooper and Two Evil Eyes from Dario Argento and George A Romero. There were some sequels, of course. My favourite would be Psycho 4. This was the final Psycho movie and even though it was not my favourite, I own it and I would still recommend it. Watchers 2 was another one and Sorority House Massacre 2. Slumber Party Massacre 3 appeared. The Amityville Curse was released and maybe is best left forgotten.Basket Case 2 was better. The Exorcist 3 was okay, I wasn't mad about it.The Maniac Cop was back with his sequel, Maniac Cop 2. Gremlins 2 was more comedy than horror, but it is worth a mention here. The Gate 2 came out as did Child's Play 2. There were so many sequels in this year.
That wraps up 1990 in my horror years. I could have forgotten some movies from this year so let me know if there is a movie you like. I have just picked out some I have seen....Look through them and relive some horror memories....
