He tries to tell the others what she did. The girls cover for her and Jimmy looks stupid.

Dell decides that he has no choice but to kill Ma Petite. He gives her a dress and she tries it on for him. She hugs him and he squeezes her to death. Another interesting episode. Poor Ma Petite was killed off, but that's the way it goes I guess...

See No Evil 2 Movie Review 350

See No Evil 2 is a 2014 straight-to DVD slasher sequel directed by the Soska sisters and starring WWE Superstar Kane and Danielle Harris.

The original movie- See No Evil was about a maniac called Jacob Goodnight who murdered a load of people in a hotel. He was supposedly  killed by one of them and he is brought into a morgue where
Amy(Harris),her co worker Seth(Kaj-Erik Eriksen) and the boss Holden(Michael Eklund) are busy at work with dead people. They know who he is and they are a little spooked by him.Amy's friends turn up at work to have a birthday party for her(at a morgue!!) and that is when the trouble begins. Little do they know that Jacob is not dead. He wakes up and begins to get some weapons for his next killing spree...

So, as you can guess, the rest of the movie is about Jacob making his way through the entire cast! Each one meets a stick end as Jacob stalks through the corridors of a seemingly gigantic morgue. This is pretty standard slasher fare and there is lots of blood and gore which is also pretty standard. It is somewhat enjoyable, but nothing special. I don't think that there is much creativity here or much of a plot really. Kane is good as the unhinged killer and the rest of the cast are OK. You really know what you are getting here. So, if you want a passable slasher, then this will suit you. I will give it a 5/10.

American Horror Story, Season 4, Episode 6

Last episode,Dandy claimed another victim and showed that he has no intention of slowing down hsis killing spree. Elsa proved that she is not so good herself as she deposited Bette and Dot at Dandy's mansion to get rid of them.

This episode begins with everyone wondering what happened to the twins. Elsa brings out a wheel and she practices her knife throwing act. It is her birthday and the freaks all have gifts for her.  She gets mad when she realises that they are all missing the girls and she tells them that they ran off. Meanwhile. He doesn't want her anywhere near them.

At the freak show, Paul talks to Jimmy about Elsa and the girls. He tries to convince him that she is no angel. He wonders what she did with the twins. Jimmy is not so sure. Dandy gets mad with the twins when he discovers that they are keeping secrets from him.Maggie and Stanley have missed out on getting the twins so they turn their sights to Ma Petite. Maggie tells him that she might be able to get her out alone. Elsa gets mad when Paul challenges her about the twins and she gets everyone up and tells them how ungrateful they are. She wants one of them to go on her wheel to prove that they trust her. Paul volunteers and she throws knives at him. She throws one into his stomach and stabs him. He knows that she did it on purpose. He is taken to his tent and his condition is serious. Penny goes to see him and is amazed that no ambulance has been called. Elsa hasn't bothered.

Jimmy is wondering about Elsa. He wonders what has happened to the twins and when Maggie wants him to leave, he tells her he has something to do. He goes to Dandy's mansion and demands to see the girls. Maggie fails to kill Ma Petite. Stanley wants someone else- Jimmy. Ethel talks to Elsa and tells her that if she has harmed the twins, she will indeed kill her.

A good episode which shows Dandy becoming even more deranged and Elsa is being shown to have a very nasty streak as she strives for one last shot at stardom.

Ouija Movie Review 349

Ouija is a 2014 horror movie directed by Stiles White and starring Olivia Cooke and Daren Kagasoff.

Let me just say that I will not be writing a long post on this movie because it was very silly. I liked movies about Ouija boards, but this one was just not up to par. Think of Witchboard and you will have a good horror movie involving a Ouija board. Maybe this movie was for younger people and I just didn't get it.I just think that some of these new movies are so bad and they have no originality or substance. But, I have to say that they are made for a teenage crowd, so you have to bear that in mind.

I was looking forward to this film, but it was a let down.  The movie revolves around a group of young friends who start messing around with a Ouija board and of course, an evil spirit is contacted and all hell breaks loose. The friends begin to die as the evil spirit is bent on destruction. There is some story about a mother and daughter and the mother killed the daughter, but the daughter was possessed and now she is back through the Ouija board and the pals have to get rid of the evil spirit. See where I am going with this?

Anyway, if you do decide to watch it, make up your own mind. Be warned that this is a very mediocre movie with so many cliches that I had to laugh. So there you have it. I'm not into teenage horror and  many movies are geared towards younger people. If you want something scary, this ain't it. I'm giving it a 2/10.

Nightcrawler Movie Review 348

Nightcrawler is a 2014 thriller directed by Dan Gilroy and starring Jake Gyllenhaal, Rene Russo and Bill Paxton.

Lou Bloom(Gyllenhaal) is a loser who has no prospects. He steals an expensive racing bike and pawns it in return for a video camera and a police scanner. He wants to film things that might be on interest to news stations and sell them. He needs to be on the scene of the accident or shooting before the cops get there and seal it off. He manages to get some footage and he approaches TV news director Nina(Russo) with his find. She is impressed with his footage and tells him to get her stuff and she will pay him well. He hires a down and out guy called Rick(Riz Ahmed) and tells him to do what he says and he will pay him.

Lou gets a fast car so he can be on the scene much quicker than the cops. He begins to become well known at the news station for his amazing footage. He has a rival ,though, called Joe(Paxton) and he wants to join with Lou or put him out of business. This backfires when Lou messes with his car and causes an accident in which Joe is injured which he then films.Lou begins to mess with crime scenes to get a better shot. He videos a home invasion and films the criminals and the dead bodies inside the house. He then follows the criminals and when they enter a restaurant, he calls the cops to tell them that they are inside, wanting a stand off between the cops and criminals which happens. Rick is a bit put off by this and Lou is not happy. Rick gets shot by one of the criminals and Lou films him!

The cops want the footage of the shootout, but Nina will not give it to them. She is sleeping with Lou and she is happy with the way things are.It turns out that it was not a home invasion, but a drug deal gone wrong, but Nina will not air that part of it as it would take away from the story. The cops talk to Lou but can't find out what really happened. Lou is a sensation after this and he gets more employees and two vans so he is going to  make his business even bigger!

This movie was interesting and it has a great performance by Gyllenhaal as the weirdo Lou. He plays the part well. The supporting cast were good too. It is well worth a watch if you enjoy a good thriller. I will give it 7/10.

American Horror Story, Season 4, Episode 5

Last episode, Twisty met a grisly end and was taken by Mordrake. Jimmy is a hero in town for saving the hostages. This time, Stanley comes to Elsa telling her that he is a television agent and that he might be able to get her a show. She is not interested initially, but she changes her mind. Really, Stanley is working with Maggie to get the freaks and kill them and get paid by the Museum of Morbid Curiosities. Maggie tries to warn Jimmy and tells him that he should leave the freak show and go somewhere else.

Jimmy goes to look for Dell who is not around and he finds Desiree upset. They end up getting close and he manages to make her bleed as they are having sex.  She is rushed to the doctor who tells her that she has suffered a miscarriage. He also tells her that she does not have a penis. It is an enlarged clitoris so she is all woman. She is amazed. He tells her that she can have surgery to take it away and her third breast can be removed also, making her normal. He tells her that she will be able to have a child in the future. She is delighted and wants to have the surgery.

Dell returns home and finds Desiree leaving. She tells him that she is going to have surgery and be normal and have kids, but not with him. He goes to the doctor and threatens him. He tells him that he had better not do the surgery or he will kill him. Elsa takes Dot and Bette to Gloria and offers them to her for Dandy.

The Sleeper Movie Review 347

The Sleeper is a 2012 horror/thriller movie directed by Justin Russell and starring Brittany Belland.

This film is a homage to the 70's/80's slasher movies and there are plenty of similarities to Black Christmas to name just one. I have to say that it is done well and you can tell that the director does love those movies as this film is a tribute to those great slashers. The movie revolves around a killer called The Sleeper who is out to murder some college girls. He has photographs of young women and he is crossing them off one by one.  In 1979, he broke into a sorority house and killed a young woman. Then it cuts to present day, 1981 and a group of college girls are on the hit list of the Sleeper. Amy(Belland) and her gal pal, Ava(Ali Ferda) are going to a sorority party for Alpha Gamma Thetas, the sorority Amy is thinking of joining. Ava is not so keen. This brings back the killer for some reason.

He breaks into the sorority house and kills one of the girls and hides her body(Black Christmas, anyone?).
The girls start to drop like flies after this. The Sleeper is back and he is on a rampage. The girls call in a Detective Drake(E. Ray Goodwin) to help them. The Sleeper is calling the house making funny noises on the phone a la Black Christmas. The cops want the girls to stay on the line long enough so they can get a trace which they do. The killer is in a some cellar and he has his pictures on the wall. Drake goes back to the house as he knows that the killer is heading there, but he is too late as the killer is already there and he has killed the cops who were watching the house. He wants Amy. Drake gets wounded by him and the killer flees. Drake knows that he will be back so he tells Amy to get to a payphone and call for back up. The killer chases her as she tries to  get to a phone. He eventually closes in on her but she manages to stab him.

Amy finds the cops as they arrive and she tells them what happened. She passes out and wakes up in hospital. She asks about the killer and is informed that he has been caught. She is reassure. The phone rings by her bedside and it is.....the killer! She screams..This was a good movie and I really enjoyed the retro slasher feel about it. I was impressed with it and I would recommend this to any slasher fan. It reminds me of the old horror movies which were so much fun, even though they were so simple. It gets a 7/10.

American Horror Story Season 4, Episode 4

This episode continues on with the Edward Mordrake storyline. He looks around the freak show for his soul and he talks to the freaks who have sad stories about their lives. He doesn't take any of them. He talks to Elsa who tells him that she was a dominatrix in Germany and that she was put into a snuff movie against her will. Her legs were cut off before she was rescued. He is going to take her but he is distracted by something else.

Jimmy and Maggie are walking when they see Twisty chasing one of his hostages. He catches her and takes her back to his van. Dandy is there too. Jimmy and Maggie follow and see what is going on. Dandy catches them and he knocks them out. When they come to, they are held captive and watch Dandy and Twisty giving the hostages a show. Dandy is going to cut Maggie in half and Twisty is about to kill Jimmy when Mordrake appears. He wants to know Twisty's story. Twisty tells him that once he was a good clown, but he was simple. The carnival people turned against him and accused him of molesting children.

He couldn't work anywhere as a clown and his life went downhill from there. He tried to blow his head off but it didn't work and he blew his mouth off hence the smiley mask. He was trying to save the children from mean parents and that is why he kills. Mordrake says that he is the one and he kills him. Twisty goes with Mordrake and his group and it is shown that his face is whole again. Dandy has been watching and he sees Twisty's body. He takes his mask and is going to continue on where he left off. Jimmy and Maggie have run off and told the cops who show up and proclaim them heroes for catching the killer. The curfew is lifted and the townsfolk come to the freak show to show their appreciation. Meanwhile, Dandy returns home and has a confrontation with the housekeeper Dora. He slashes her throat and smiles..

A very good episode which saw the end of Twisty and the beginning of evil Dandy. He is a good character and I think that it will be interesting to see how far he will go to satisfy his blood lust.

Solo Movie Review 346

Solo is a 2013 thriller movie directed by Isaac Cravit and starring Annie Clark, Daniel Kash and Richard Clarkin. There are spoilers ahead so be warned.

The movie begins with a young girl called Gillian(Clark) who is going to start working at a  summer camp. She little or no experience, but she says that she has. Each worker has to spend a day or two on an island nearby alone to prove their survival skills. Gillian is a little worried about this, but she goes over with the camp owner, Fred(Clarkin). She looks around the place and it is very isolated. There is a rumour going around that the island is haunted because a little girl disappeared there years ago. Fred heads off and leaves her alone. She is spooked when she hears something and she jumps when she sees a man on the island. He tells her that his name is Ray(Kash) and that he thought that she sent out an SOS.

Gillian gets rid of him after a while and she continues on with her job. She gets a fright when Fred's son, Marty turns up. He just came to check on her. They wander around the island. Things take a dark turn when Ray turns up again. It turns out that he is a bit of a psycho and he almost kills Marty and chases Gillian. The rest of the movie is a game of cat and mouse as Ray tries to get Gillian. When he eventually does, she manages to escape and kill him. She takes his boat and heads back to the camp.

This was an interesting movie. There isn't much to it, but it is worth a look. I enjoyed it I have to say and it is cheap, but entertaining. I will give it a 5/10.

Jigsaw and Amanda's Festive Faves!

It is almost Christmas again- doesn't the year fly by? It is time for those golden oldies to come on TV and some not so good movies that we have seen again and again..To start with, here at Jigsaw's Lair, we are not all about the dark side. Yes, we do indulge in it a lot more horror than most people, but we do have a softer side. Christmas is about family and enjoying some great films that make us smile or cry.We both like to watch It's a Wonderful Life at Christmas. I, Amanda, tend to enjoy it more than Jigsaw, but hey, it's Christmas!

Another classic I like to watch is Gone With the Wind. It would not be Christmas without this epic movie. National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation is still one of my all time funny Christmas movies. I just love it and I watch it every year. Hmmm, what else? Gremlins of course! It is not strictly a Christmas movie, but I enjoy it at this time of year. Then there is Die Hard and White Christmas....So many sentimental movies that we like to watch.....Brings a tear to your eye, doesn't it?

Now, don't get me wrong, I love the sentimental Christmas movies, but what would Christmas be without a gem like Silent Night, Deadly Night. It brings the true Christmas message to life. To see a killer Santa on the loose really makes you enjoy it all the more. Sinister grandad scares his grandson by telling him bad stories...Can you top that for festive fun? And what about Black Christmas? A psycho hides in the attic of a sorority house and kills young women one by one...Gives you a warm glow inside....Christmas Evil tells of a poor delusional man who decides to become Santa and delivers bloody gifts for everyone....Santa is indeed giving... Silent Night is another killer Santa movie which is not great, but worth a look if you have time on your hands.Well, there are plenty more movies that I would watch at Christmas, but these few come to mind. If you have any suggestions for a good Christmas movie , then let me know...

The Walking Dead, Season 5, Episode 6

This episode beings with Carol and Daryl following the car with the white cross on it. They are hoping that it will lead them to where Beth is. They run out of gas and have to leave the car and find shelter for the night. They find a spot to look out over the area and they end up in an office block. They find walkers in a tent inside and they kill them. They get held up by Noah who has followed them and he takes their weapons. He escapes and Carol is going to kill him, but Daryl stops her.

They find a van from Grady Memorial Hospital with a stretcher inside and they wonder if Beth has been taken there. They go back to the office block where they find Noah and Daryl pushes a bookcase on top of him. He is trapped and there are walkers coming. Daryl is going to leave him tere to die, but Carol asks him not to do that. They rescue Noah and he tells them about Beth and the hospital. They are going to help him, but Carol steps out on the street and gets knocked down by a car from the hospital. Daryl can't help and he has to watch as two people get out of the car and take her away with them. They decide to go back to Rick and the others and get a group together to get Beth and Carol out.

A good episode which sets everything up nicely. There will be a confrontation between the hospital and the survivor group and it should be good!

American Horror Story, Season 4, Episode 3

This episode begins with a guy called Stanley(Denis O'Hare) and a girl called Maggie(Emma Roberts) who are at a morbidity museum and they find out that if they can bring a freak in dead, they will get lots of money. They make a plan to set out for Elsa's freakshow to get themselves a freak. Meanwhile, it is Halloween and the freaks are telling stories about an Englishman called Edward Mordrake. Apparently, he was a freak who had a face on the back of his head. It was evil, trying to corrupt him. He tried to get rid of it, but he couldn't. He joined a freakshow and then killed everyone and himself on Halloween. The freaks don't perform because if they do, he will come for them.

.

Ethel is at the doctor and he tells her that she is very sick. Her liver is not good and she has not long left to live. Maggie turns up at the freak show and she wants a job. She pretends that she is a fortune teller and manages to fool Elsa into hiring her. She has the name Esmeralda. She calls Stanley to tell him that she is in the show and he is happy as he wants a freak. Ethel tells Dell not to reveal that he is Jimmy's dad and that she hasn't long left to live.Dot and Bette are singing when Elsa decides to take over and she sings her own song. This summons Mordrake(Wes Bentley)and he appears at the freakshow. He talks to Ethel about her sad life and she thinks that he will take her soul, but he doesn't. Meanwhile, Dandy is prancing around dressed as a clown and he threatens the housekeeper, Dora(Patti LaBelle) who thinks that he is an idiot. He heads off to Twisty's hideout and torments the two children he has held captive. Twisty arrives with another boy.

This was a good episode and it introduces some new characters. I don't like Elsa singing modern songs as it doesn't fit with the rest of the show. This is one flaw about the show, but it's only a small thing.

The Walking Dead, Season 5, Episode 5

This episode begins with Abraham and his group. They are on the bus travelling when it suddenly breaks down and is on fire. The group have to abandon the bus and their stuff . A group of walkers approach them and they fight. They manage to kill them.Eugene saves Tara's life and she is grateful to him. He is a bit strange though because he is a peeping tom. He watches Abraham and Rosita having sex and he is caught by Tara. He tells her that he sabotaged the bus so that they would have to return to the church and safety. Tara warns him not to do anything like that again. She agrees not to tell the others.

They discover a fire truck and they ride along in that for a while, but it breaks down. They fight off more walkers. They discover a horrible smell along the road and they see a gigantic group of walkers in the road ahead. The group realise that they can't fight them all , but Abraham wants to go through them with Eugene. It is then that Eugene admits that he lied. He has no cure. He was just pretending so that he would be useful to Abraham. Abraham is furious and he beats him up. Everyone is in shock. He kneels on the road and just cries. Cut to a flashback where Abraham is with his wife and two children in a supermarket. He kills some people and the wife and kids are afraid of him. They leave while he is asleep and he finds their bodies outside, eaten by walkers. He is going to kill himself when Eugene appears and tells him that he has a cure. Abraham decides that he will protect him and get him to Washington.

Interesting episode with some insight into Abraham. I like his character. Eugene turned out to be a complete liar so I don't know where the group will go from here.

American Horror Story, Season 4, Episode 2

In the last episode, we were introduced to Elsa Mars and her group of freaks. A killer clown called Twisty was on the prowl around the town of Jupiter, Florida. He is in a toyshop at the beginning of this episode and he kills the owner and the younger worker. The cops call to the freak show to tell Elsa that there is going to be a curfew enforced in the town as the killer is still out there. This will impact on the business of the freak show. Jimmy digs up the dead cop's body and takes the badge. He is worried about the cops sniffing around. They will not give up as he was one of their own. Jimmy's father, Dell(Michael Chiklis) and his new wife, Desiree(Angela Bassett) turn up at the freak show and want to join up. Dell is a strong man and Desiree is a hermaphrodite and also has three breasts. Ethel is not happy as she does not want Dell to go anywhere near her son Jimmy. She was married to Dell a long time ago and he was not a good guy.

Dell manages to worm his way in and Ethel is angry. Gloria is driving around when she sees Twisty the clown. She stops her car and asks him to come to her house to entertain her son, Dandy. When Dandy meets Twisty, he is fascinated by him. He wants to know all about him. Twisty if unnerved and he hits him over the head and runs off. Dandy follows him just in time to see Twisty's kidnapped kids trying to escape. The girl runs up to Dandy, thinking that he will help her, but he just brings her back to Twisty and they all go into his van. It turns out that Dandy is a psycho and he wants to help Twisty to kill.

Jimmy and Dell butt heads as Jimmy brings the freaks into the local diner for some food, but Dell catches them and tells them that they shouldn't be giving the public a free show. It turns out that Dot can sing very well and this doesn't sit well with Elsa who thinks that she is the singing star. When Dot sings at the show, Elsa watches with jealousy. Jimmy plants the cop's badge in Dell's trailer, trying to frame him, but it ends up in Meep's instead and poor Meep gets taken to the police station where he is murdered. Jimmy decides that he has to confess to get Meep out. The cops drop Meep off , dead at the freak show and Jimmy is distraught. This was a good episode with lots happening. There are a lot of characters but I like that and I think that this season is very good so far.
