In Germany in the 1900's, there is a village called Vandorf and there are a large amount of murders in the area. There is a creepy Castle in the area and all of the locals are afraid to go anywhere near it. A young man called Bruno Heitz is with her girlfriend when they have an argument. She runs off into the forest and sees something horrific. She is killed and the locals blame Bruno for it. He is found hanging from a tree and the inquest says that he killed her and then himself. Doctor Namaroff(Peter Cushing) signs off on it, but he looks shifty. His assistant is Carla(Barbara Shelley) and she finds that the body of the young girl who was killed has turned into stone. There is a legend going around that the Gorgon called Megaera who has snakes coming out of her head is in the village and she is at the castle. She kills people by turning them to stone when they look at her. She has assumed human form so who is she?
Bruno's father turns up and wants to investigate what happened, but he too sees something horrible and turns into stone but not before writing a letter to his son telling him what is going on. Paul Heitz (Richard Pasco)turns up in Vandorf and wants answers about what happened to his brother Bruno and his dad. Dr. Namaroff is not giving anything away. He seems to know something, but will not help Paul to find out what is going on. The local Inspector Kanof(Patrick Troughton) is not too keen on Paul digging around.
Paul's friend is Professor Karl Meister(Lee) and he comes to Vandorf to see what is going on. Paul has seen something horrible near the castle and ended up in hospital. He has aged too. He has also fallen in love with Carla. He wants to take her away but she can't go. Namaroff is in love with her too and he doesn't want to let her go. He knows something about her and he is protecting her. Meister tells Paul that he thinks that Megaera is inside Carla. Paul doesn't believe it. He meets Carla and he wants her to go to Leipzig to wait for him and they can be together. Meister tells Paul that she will not leave Vandorf as she is Megaera. Namaroff turns up looking for Carla and they all end up at the castle. Namaroff and Paul fight over Carla and Megaera shows up. Namaroff looks at her and dies. Paul sees her too. Meister chops off her head and Paul sees her turning back into Carla before he dies. This was entertaining and good fun to watch. I liked the cast and even though the special effects are not the best(they are really bad!), I really enjoyed watching this movie and I recommend it to Hammer fans. I will give it 7/10.
This episode begins with all of the characters reflecting after their slaughter of The Saviors. Carol is not happy about what is happening. Daryl tells her that he wishes that he had killed the people who held him captive and took his crossbow in an earlier episode. Denise goes with Rosita and Daryl to get some supplies. They go to the pharmacy where Denise sees things that disgust her. Abraham and Eugene are looking around and Eugene tells him that he wants to make ammo. Abraham steps in to save him when a walker attacks. Eugene thinks that he can look after himself so Abraham leaves him to it.
Denise and the others have an altercation with a walker and Denise manages to kill it and she is happy. Suddenly, she is shot through the eye with a crossbow. She dies instantly. Daryl and Rosita are devastated and Dwight emerges from the bushes with a posse. He has Eugene captured too. He wants Daryl to lead them to Alexandria. Abraham sees this from the bushes. Eugene tells Dwight that they have back up and when they go to see, he bites Dwight in the crotch. This gives them a chance to get their guns and a fight happens. They manage to kill a few of The Saviors and Dwight has to flee. Daryl and the others make it back to Alexandria where Daryl buries Denise. Abraham tells Sasha that he likes her and he makes up with Eugene. The episode ends with Tobin reading a goodbye letter from Carol who is going off alone for some reason. What the hell is going on with her character? It is very annoying...
1992 was an interesting year for horror movies but I wouldn't say that it was the best. Firstly I will begin with a movie that I enjoyed when it was originally released. Bram Stoker's Dracula was directed by Francis Ford Coppola and starred Gary Oldman in the lead role, with Keanu Reeves and Winona Ryder co starring. There was a great cast and I really enjoyed it. It was a box office success unlike a lot of the other horror movies from this year, but, being a fan of the book, this was a good adaptation in my opinion. Keanu Reeves looked lost in this film, but apart from that, it was well made and enjoyable.Another favourite of mine from this year is Sleepwalkers based on a screenplay by Stephen King and directed by Mick Garris who has directed many King adaptations. It starred Alice Krige and Brian Krause as vampires who can turn into creatures. They are mother and son and they are living in a small town. Charles meets a young woman, played by Madchen Amick and he wants her so that he can drain her life force. She fights him and then all hell breaks loose. It is a good movie andI enjoyed it. It isn't one of the better known King adaptations, but good fun!
Another King story adapted this year is Lawnmower Man starring Pierce Brosnan and Jeff Fahey. I liked this, even though King did not and sued to get his name taken off of it. It is an entertaining movie nonetheless.Candyman was released this year and while it is not one of my all time favourites, it is a good movie. It is adapted from a story by Clive Barker and Virginia Madsen stars in the lead role. Dolly Dearest and Demonic Toys were released this year too. I find those weird dolls creepy anyway so this was a creepy movie, while not great. Demonic Toys had some creepy moments too and those toys are weird! It's not a brilliant film, but fun anyway. More movies released are Braindead, Dust Devil, Raising Cain, The Resurrected and Netherworld.
Sequels were many this year. Let's start with Army of Darkness. This is the third movie in the Evil Dead series. It is really entertaining and I enjoyed it thoroughly. Some other sequels which were not so great are Hellraiser 3, Pet Semetary 2, ,Waxwork 2. Amityville:It's About Time is the sixth movie in the Amityville series. It wasn't a bad movie, but as the sequels roll on, the quality declines. Stepfather 3 was so so and not one that I would watch again. House 4 was okay, but nothing special. Prom Night was still making sequels in this year and this time it was Prom Night 4- the last movie in the series. It was better to end it here as the movies got worse as they went along. The Gate 2 was not really worth watching. Basket Case 3 was not great either in my opinion. So there you have it- my selection of films from 1992. Some good, some bad, some mediocre, but all horror! Enjoy!
Last time, Carol and Maggie were taken hostage by The Saviors. This episode tells that story. Carol and Maggie are with their captors who happen to be three women-Paula(Alicia Witt),Michelle and Molly. They see Rick capture their man Primo. They tell Rick that they have the two women and Rick tries to make a deal with them. Carol and Maggie are taken to a building where they are put into a room with the three women. Paula is talking to reinforcements over the radio and Carol pretends to be a harmless woman who doesn't know anything about killing or death. They are tied up. Their captors discover that Maggie is pregnant.
Carol and Maggie talk to their captors and Carol tries to tell them that there doesn't have to be any more killing. Paula thinks that she is an idiot who is terrified. Carol manages to get herself free and she releases Carol. They have no choice but to shoot their captors and Carol kills the reinforcements. They run outside and find Rick and the others. They are shaken up by their ordeal and Carol seems to be cracking up a bit. Rick asks Primo who is Negan and he tells Rick that he is. Rick kills him. Carol is shocked.
This was a good episode. I am not sure that I like the way that Carol's character is heading.She is a tough woman and that is good. I hope that they don't mess that up.
Joanne(Lapinski) is a college student who is clearing out a dormitory in her college which is being demolished. She has to pack everything up and make sure that the place is ready within two weeks. She has the help of her friends Brian( David Snow), Craig(Sachs),Patty(Pamela Holland) and Debbie(Zuniga). What they don't know is that there is a killer on campus who is disposing of the college kids. The group are working away, but Debbie has to leave as her parents are collecting her to take her home. Her parents are waiting for her in their car when her dad decides to walk around o find her. He is killed and her mother is killed too. She is killed by an unknown person and dragged away.
There is a local weirdo on campus too. He is called John(Woody Roll) and he is living there when he should not be. He appears and disappears and he unnerves everyone with his creepiness. They try and tell him to get out of the dorm, but he doesn't leave. They think that he is up to something weird. When they hear noises they think that it is John. They call the cops and tell them. The cops tell them that they will check in on them later. Joanne meets a guy called Bobby who is buying some tables from her and he likes her.
When Brian disappears and is found dead and Patty is cooked alive in a pressure cooker, Joanne and Craig are left to battle with the killer. They think that it is John and they manage to kill him between them. But, Joanne gets the surprise of her life when Craig reveals that the killer is HIM. He loves her and he kills anyone who gets close to her. He chases her and she tries to escape. Bobby turns up looking for her and she tells him what is going on. The cops show up too. Craig tells them that BOBBY is the killer and they shoot him. He manages to get Joanne and throw her into the incinerator and his guilt goes unknown.
This movie was not bad, but it is a bit thin plot wise. I liked it though and it did keep me watching so that is good. There are no frills here and the acting isn't great, but if you are looking for a cheap horror movie, then this will entertain you. I will give it a 5/10.
Well, the last episode ended with Rick, Jesus and the group deciding to take on Negan and The Saviours. This will not be an easy task and all of the people in Alexandria go to a meeting and decide who is going to fight and who will stay in Alexandria. Carol seems very nervous about this we wonder what is going on with her. She seems to be thinking about things as she visits a grave. Rick tells the group what happened with Daryl, Abraham and Sasha and about The Saviours almost killing them. He wants to get them before they decide to come to Alexandria. Morgan doesn't agree.
Carol talks to Tobin and they kiss. They seem to be more than just friends. Things are not going so well for Abraham and Rosita. He dumps her in a brutal fashion telling her that she is not the only woman left on earth. She is very upset. The group need a head as a stand in for Gregory's whom The Saviours expect to be dead. They are going to deliver it to the place where they leave the food and supplies. Once inside, then they can start the killing. They get a walker's head and try and make it look like Gregory. One of the men who has been at The Saviours' place shows them what he knows and they leave.
When they reach it, Jesus shows them the head and they are allowed inside. They kill everyone that they meet and wander through the building. They come upon gruesome Polaroids of dead people which is creepy. Carol and Maggie are outside the place, keeping watch. The others kill and fight with the people that are there. Jesus arrives and he helps them. They finally end the fight but they see a Saviour riding away on Daryl's motorbike. They chase him and they are going to kill him when a voice comes over the radio telling them to lower their weapons- they have hostages, Carol and Maggie. This isn't going to end well!!!!Great episode with lots happening.
This episode begins with Jesus telling Rick and the others about the group to which belongs. They are called the Hilltop . They can offer Rick's group stuff that they need such as food and medicine in return for guns and ammo. Rick and some of the others decide to travel with Jesus back to his community and see what they can do about trading. Abraham and Sasha are getting along very well and he is attracted to her. He is still with Rosita, though, so I don't know what will happen there. He asks Glenn how he feels now that Maggie is pregnant. Glenn is happy and wants to bring his child into the world as it is now. Rick and the others are on their way to the Hilltop when Jesus sees a car that he recognises. It belongs to their community and the group finds some of his people who have been attacked.
They all arrive at the Hilltop and enter. They see a huge house and a lot of people who are growing crops etc. They are taken to meet the leader of the community who is called Gregory. They are not sure what to make of him. He doesn't impress them. Rick asks Maggie to deal with him about trading. She tries to make a deal with him but he is a sleaze and tries to come on to her. Some of the Hilltop people come back from a meeting with Negan who is the head of The Saviours. Negan is forcing them to give him half of their supplies in return for their lives. He sends a message with one of the people because the supplies were less than they should have been. The message consists of Gregory being stabbed in the stomach by one of his own men as a warning.
Gregory is helped and he doesn't die. Jesus tells them about Negan and the deal that they made with him. Negan is holding one of their group and Rick tells him that they can rescue their man and take out the Saviours in return for supplies. Gregory accepts their offer. They head off after Glenn and Maggie get an ultrasound by the doctor and show their printout picture to everyone. This was an interesting episode which sets up a big confrontation between Rick's group and the Saviours. That will end in bloodshed, I predict!
1982 was a great year for horror movies and movies in general. I could list all of the movies from this year, but I will just concentrate on the best ones or the good ones. Let me see, I think that I will start with some of my favourite films from the year.
Firstly, Poltergeist. This movie is directed by Tobe Hooper who has made some fine movies over the years. I love this film as it is creepy and well written(Spielberg co wrote this). I really enjoy it and it is definitely a classic. There is no point going into the plot because you should have seen this movie! Next,Creepshow. I enjoyed this movie penned by Stephen King and directed by horror maestro George A. Romero. It is in the vein of The Twilight Zone. It is a classic combination of old fashioned story telling with modern creepiness. The Thing was directed by John Carpenter and starred Kurt Russell. This is a very good horror with some great scenes.A low budget horror movie called Basket Case was released in this year. It is a cult classic by now and it was a weird kind of movie about a guy who carries his deformed twin brother in a basket. His brother is violent and this movie is too. It is good fun though.
Lastly, but not least are the sequels that arrived. There were not many but they were good, especially Amityville 2:The Possession. I liked this movie. Of course it is not as good as the original, but I think that it is a good solid sequel. Halloween 3: Season of the Witch was not bad as sequels go. Friday the 13th, Part 3 I enjoyed. It was a by the numbers horror movie, but it kept me entertained.So, that is all in my synopsis of this year,. Yes, I have left out movies, but I included the movies that I liked. The plot of this movie is a bit weird. If you have watched the original, then you know the story. Courtney and her sister were chased by a maniacal killer and they survived. Valerie, Courtney's sister, ended up in a mental institution and Courtney has bad dreams. She is haunted by an unknown killer in her dreams. When she and her pals, Amy(McArthur) , Sheila(Cummins),Sally(Heidi Kozak) go to a condo for the weekend with their boyfriends, it all becomes strange. Courtney sees horrible things. She sees people being killed and she sees warnings from her sister. She thinks that she is losing her mind and the others are worried about her. Her love interest Matt(Lowe) is there too and he wants to help her.
The rest of the movie consists of Courtney having nightmares about a leather-clad rock n' roll maniac with a guitar that has a drill attached. He comes out of her nightmares and kills all of her pals with his groovy guitar. He chases her down and then the ending of the film is really messed up and strange. It is sort of a comedy really. You couldn't take it seriously. I found that it started well and went downhill as it progressed. The original was good, this wasn't great at all. It is worth a look for comedy value alone, but otherwise, you might avoid it. I will give it a 4/10.
Last episode, we saw Negan's crew and they got blown to bits by Daryl. Carl was shot through the eye by Jessie's son. We didn't know if he would survive. Well, he did survive and this episode begins with Rick, Michonne and Carl and they look like a happy family. Daryl and Rick are going on a supply run and they take orders from the people in Alexandria for items that they might be able to find. Daryl and Rick hit the jackpot when they find a small truck full with food. They are going to take it with them when they run into a weird guy(Tom Payne) who is known as Jesus. He tricks them and takes their truck. They chase him and get some of their stuff back and tie him up. They leave him on the road, but as they are driving along, they hear someone on the roof. It is Jesus and they stop the truck and he falls off.
There is a fight and the truck ends up rolling into a lake, losing all of their stuff. Carl and Enid are in the woods and Carl sees a walker, but he doesn't kill it. Michonne and Deanna's son, Spencer are also there and see this. Michonne wonders why Carl didn't kill the walker, but it turns out that it is Deanna and he was leaving it to Spencer to kill her. He tells Michonne that he would kill her if he she was bitten because she is part of his family. She tells him that she would do it too. Rick and Daryl bring Jesus back to Alexandria and tie him up. Rick and Michonne have sex which I did not see coming! The next morning, they wake and see Jesus standing by the bed. He tells Rick that they need to talk.
This was a very interesting episode with the introduction of the Jesus character. It should be good to see how he fits in with the rest.
Pacific Heights is a 1990 thriller directed by John Schlesinger and starring Matthew Modine, Melanie Griffith and Michael Keaton.Drake Goodman(Modine) and his girlfriend Patty Palmer(Griffith) buy a house in San Francisco. They plan to rent out two apartments in it. It is a very expensive house in a very good area called Pacific Heights. The first tenants are a Japanese couple called the Watanabes and they are no trouble. The next tenant is a suave guy called Carter Hayes(Keaton). He seems to have money and they like him.
He has a problem with a credit check and he manages to get Drake to leave it and gets him references instead. He tells Drake that he will pay the first six months by wire transfer and that satisfies Drake. Hayes decides to move in unannounced and he locks himself into the apartment without his money being paid. Over the next few days, it happens that the money is not going to be paid and Hayes is making weird noises in the apartment. Drake gets worried and tries to get inside but the locks have been changed. Drake wants to cut the heat and electricity to get him out, but Hayes calls the cops and Drake is warned that he will be in trouble if he does that.
This begins a cat and mouse game between Hayes and the couple. Drake attacks him and gets arrested and Hayes gets a restraining order to keep him from coming back. Patty is alone and Hayes terrorizes her. Drake comes back to the building and is shot by Hayes who then disappears. The cops finally get inside the apartment and everything has been stripped and gone. Patty finds a photograph of Hayes and finds out that his real name is James Danforth. She goes to speak to one of his references and finds out that he was disowned by his family and that he is very dodgy. Patty traces his girlfriend and finds out that Danforth assumed Carter Hayes' identity and she shows her a postcard from him and Patty finds out where he is now.
She finds his hotel and gets into his room and goes through his stuff. She finds out that he has been using Drake's identity. She calls Drake and tells him to cancel his credit cards etc. She gets Danfroth into trouble by making a huge room service order and when he can't pay, he is arrested. He is bailed out by his next victim and he goes back to San Francisco to get his revenge. There is a fight between him and the couple and he ends up dead. Patty and Drake sell the apartment and move on. This was a good film with a great cast. Keaton is great as the murky Hayes and Modine and Griffith play their parts well. This is a well made thriller and I really enjoyed it. I will give it a 7/10.
The Walking Dead is finally back after all this time! The premiere was really good and full of action. Last time, Alexandria was falling and the walkers were everywhere. Deanna died and Denise was taken hostage by the Wolf guy that Morgan had left alive. Glenn and Erin found Maggie but she was on a tower surrounded by walkers. Daryl, Sasha and Abraham ran into some bikers who told them that their stuff now belonged to a guy called Negan. This episode begins with that story line. The leader of the group tells them that they have to give up their stuff or else. They are going to kill Abraham but Daryl manages to get hold of a rocket launcher that they had with them and blow the entire group to bits!
Cut to Rick and the others who are making their way through the horde of walkers covered in walker guts. Jessie's son Sam is the weak link and he is looking around at the walkers and getting scared. He freaks out and gets eaten by the walkers. Jessie won't let him go, so she gets eaten too. Her other son, Ron points a gun at Rick, but he is killed by Michonne. He fires the gun before he dies and it hits Carl in the eye.Is he dead?
Denise and the Wolf guy are running around and he wants to escape. He tries to save her from getting bitten and he gets bitten instead. She tells him that she can save his life if she can get him to the infirmary in time. They try and run but Carol shoots him dead. He turns into a walker but gets killed (again) by Morgan. Denise has to try and save Carl's life. Rick is distraught and he starts attacking all of the walkers in anger. Some of the others take a leaf out of his book and attack too. They make a large dent in the horde. Glenn and Erin save Maggie. Daryl and the others arrive back to Alexandria to help with the fight. Rick sits with his son and prays that he will survive. This was a very good episode. There were a few surprise deaths. I didn't expect Jessie to die with her two sons. I didn't see Daryl blowing up those biker dudes. It was very exciting and I am glad that it is back.
Reeves stars as rookie FBI agent Johnny Utah who is working with his partner and veteran FBI guy Angelo Pappas(Busey) to catch a group of bank robbers called the Ex- Presidents, who wear masks of ex- US Presidents in their robberies.The thieves are very slick and they are well organised. Utah has to go undercover when they suspect that the robbers might be surfers. He wants to get some information on them, but he sticks out like a sore thumb. He meets surfer lady Tyler (Lori Petty) and tries to get her to help him to learn to surf. She reluctantly agrees after she saves him from drowning when he tries to surf alone. She introduces him to a charismatic guy called Bodhi(Swayze) who seems to be the leader of a group of surfer dudes.
The surfers wonder who this Utah is, but Bodhi realises that Johnny used to play football in college and this relaxes everyone and he is accepted. He gets in deeper with the group and finds their way of life appealing in some ways. He knows that he has to stick to his job, but it is hard to think of the guys as criminals. He has a suspicion that they are the thieves and he gets closer and closer to discovering the truth. He also grows closer to Tyler. Of course, Bodhi finds out that Johnny is not who he says when he is chased by him after a robbery attempt. Things get strange after that. Tyler finds out who he is and dumps him. He is still with the gang, but Bodhi has Tyler kidnapped and blackmails Johnny into helping them rob a bank with them. He has no choice, but it all goes wrong and one of the surfers is killed. Bodhi knocks Johnny out and leaves him there while he escapes.
Johnny and Angelo try to stop the thieves when they find out that they are taking a flight to Mexico and there is a shootout. More surfers are dead and Angelo gets shot and killed too. Only Bodhi and one of his pals are left. They force Utah onto the airplane and then they jump out with their parachutes. Johnny jumps after them and he tries to catch Bodhi, but his knee gives out from an old injury and he can't catch him. Tyler is released and Bodhi and another friend of his escape with the money leaving Bodhi's last surfer pal dead behind him. Cut to almost a year later and Utah catches up with Bodhi in Bell's Beach in Australia where a major storm is brewing. Bodhi is there to surf the ultimate waves. There is a brawl and Johnny wants to bring Bodhi in, but he cannot when Bodhi pleads with him to let him surf the waves, knowing that this means certain death. Johnny agrees and he and the cops watch Bodhi disappear into the violent waves. Johnny tosses his FBI badge into the water and walks away. This is a great film. I loved this when it was released and it is still as good as ever. Swayze is great as the mystical Bodhi who captivates Johnny and Reeves is entertaining as the pretty clueless Johnny Utah. There is a good cast in this movie and it is a must for all action fans. I know that there is a remake of this in cinemas at the moment, but I am not really interested in that. Watch this instead, it is a fun movie and one of my favourite 90's movies. I give it a 9/10.
FBI agent Joe Merriweather(Morgan) is working with his partner Cowles(Abbie Cornish) on a serial killer case. Joe goes to an old friend called John Clancy(Hopkins) who just happens to be psychic. Joe needs his help with the case. John has been a recluse since his daughter died of cancer. He reluctantly agrees and he goes to the apartment of one of the victims. The killer leaves a note and it seems as if he is taunting the cops. The cops arrest the husband of one of the victims, but John can see by touching him that he is not the killer.
They figure out that the killer seems to be targeting people who are sick have something wrong with them. Is he putting them out of their misery? The killer knows every step that they take and John realises that he is also psychic. He has been ahead of them all of the time. They find out that the killer can see that the victim is or will be sick or dying in the future and he wants to prevent their suffering and that is why he kills them. He looks into their future and sees pain and misery so he kills his victims to save them from this.John meets him and talks to him but he escapes.
SPOILER ALERT!!!!!The cops chase up leads, Joe gets shot in pursuit of the killer who is Charles Ambrose(Farrell).It turns out that Joe has stage four cancer and he dies. Cowles has to go on alone with the help of Clancy. Clancy meets Ambrose and talks to him about what he is doing Farrell thinks that he is helping people. John can see that Cowles will face Ambrose on a train and that she will get shot and die. He tries to prevent this by going with her and he has a face off with Ambrose who is dying and wants Clancy to carry on his work for him. Clancy shoots Ambrose after getting shot himself. Ambrose dies but Cowles is saved. Clancy survives and he and Cowles part as friends.
This was an interesting thriller. I liked the cast and the story was good too. Farrell was suitably moody as the killer and Hopkins entertained as the weary Clancy. I would recommend this as a solid thriller. I will give it a 6/10.
This film looks interesting. I have read a lot about it but I am still waiting to see it. It looks like it could be good. The Witch is an indie horror movie which might do well at the box office. I like the look of it anyway so watch the trailer and see what you think. It is directed by Robert Eggers and it stars Anya Taylor-Joy. It will be released this month.
