The Rental Movie Review

Trailer here

The Rental is a 2020 horror/thriller movie directed by Dave Franco and starring Dan Stevens, Alison Brie, Sheila Vand, Jeremy Allen White and Toby Huss.

The movie begins with two couples- Michelle(Brie) and Charlie(Stevens) and Josh(White) and Mina(Vand). They have rented a house for the weekend. They drive up there and they meet the landlord's brother, Taylor(Huss). Taylor seems a little odd. They think he is racist or something. Taylor drops off a telescope. Mina has a problem with him and she doesn't like him. They all have a party and Michelle goes to bed and Josh passes out while Mina and Charlie have sex in the shower. Someone is watching them cheat on their partners. Mina discovers a hidden camera in the shower. She realises that someone saw what they did. Charlie says that they can't call the cops or Josh and Michelle will find out what they have done. They can't find their dog. Josh thinks that Taylor did something to it. Taylor arrives to fix the hot tub. Josh accuses him of taking the dog. Mina tells him that she knows what is doing. He doesn't know what they are talking about. He wants to call the police. Mina tries to stop him. Josh beats him up and knocks him out. Someone is filming this. That person finishes Taylor off.

The group find Taylor dead. They decide what to do. They search the place for cameras. They take the body away. Michelle hears the shower turning off and on. Josh pushes Taylor's body into the sea. Michelle sees the video of Mina and Charlie in the shower. They are being filmed by the unknown killer. Michelle is angry and hurt and she decides to leave. She confronts Charlie and then she drives off. She ends up hitting a tree and she finds a trap that has burst her tyres. Someone comes. Charlie looks for her and he sees a message that she has sent. He finds her dead. He gets hit by someone. Josh tries to break down a locked door in the house. He finds a secret room with cameras and stuff. He gets a text from Charlie's phone with footage of Charlie and Mina talking about what they did. Then he sees the video of them in the shower. He gets attacked by the killer, who has also killed Charlie. Josh dies. The killer chases Mina and she falls off a cliff. The movie ends with the man clearing up all of his stuff from the house. He removes his cameras. The dog comes back to the house showing that it was fine all along. The killer sets up his cameras in another house, suggesting that the killings will start again. He spies on a couple and attacks them while they are asleep.

This film was not very good. I don't know what Franco was trying to do here. It is not a horror movie really. It is more of a thriller with drama thrown in. I found that there were little to no scares and that the movie wasn't very interesting overall. I didn't care for the cast very much and I didn't really care if they died or not. The Mina character was annoying and I was glad when she fell off the cliff. Whatever this movie was trying to do, I think that it failed. It was all over the place and it should have stayed either a drama or a thriller. I found some of it tedious and when something did happen, I just didn't care anymore. If you like thrillers with some drama , then this might be for you. I didn't like it. It wasn't for me. There just wasn't enough in it to keep me interested. The cast weren't particularly great either, in my opinion. This gets a 3/10.

The Evil Movie Review

The Evil is a 1978 horror movie directed by Gus Trikonis and starring Richard Crenna, Joanna Pettet, Andrew Prine, Cassie Yates and Victor Buono.

The movie begins with a man who is cleaning up an old house. He is nervous and he hears noises. He looks around to see what the noises are. He gets burned alive. Cut to a psychiatrist called C.J. Arnold(Crenna) and his wife Caroline(Pettet). They have bought the old house and they plan to set it up as a rehab clinic. They have heard stories about the house being haunted. Caroline is spooked. They move in but Caroline starts to see weird things happening in the house. She thinks that she sees a statue moving. C.J. doesn't believe it. A group of people come to help them. Pete, Dwight, Mary(Yates),Felicia(Lynne Moody), Professor Raymond Guy(Prine) and Laurie(Mary Louise Weller).
There is also a dog called Kaiser. He senses something in the house and he goes down to the basement and starts digging. The group hear Kasier howling. They go down to the basement and Kaiser gets angry. He scratches Mary. Caroline feels that the house is evil. She is scared.

Caroline sees a figure moving. She discovers an old diary written by a man called Vargas. They all look at it. Caroline thinks that they are being warned to get out of the house. The girls find a dead body. C.J. finds a crucifix where Kaiser was digging. He finds a door. The whole house shakes and Dwight gets electrocuted. The house closes up and they can't get out. Something is stopping them. They try to figure out what happened. Caroline tells them that she saw a figure. Felicia is attacked by an unseen force and it tries to rape her. C.J. and Pete come up with an escape plan. Pete tries to climb out of the house but the forces mess with him. He gets stuck and burns alive. Dr. Raymond questions what is happening. C.J. doesn't believe in ghosts. Dr. Raymond gets injured by a saw. Kaiser attacks and kills Mary and then dies himself. Caroline tells C.J. that she heard laughing but he is not buying it.

Mary's body disappears. Caroline sees a figure and it beckons her to follow. She holds up the crucifix. Vargas wants C.J. Caroline thinks he's trying to help them. They look through his diary but it goes on fire. Laurie gets pulled away by something. Felicia is electrocuted. Dr. Raymond escapes through an open window but he falls into mud and dies. Vargas enters into Caroline and he says that evil has been released and that he needs to lock evil away again. C.J. and Caroline go to the basement. C.J. sees a man dressed in white. He wants them to get rid of the crucifix. He tortures C.J. He is the Devil(Buono). Caroline manages to stab him with the crucifix and it seems to destroy him. They escape and take the cross with them and close the door on the Devil. They seal the door with the cross. The house magically opens up and they escape and drive away.

This was a decent film. There weren't too many scares in it, but I still enjoyed it. It had the feel of a TV movie about it. I liked the idea of the creepy house but I did feel that the ending with the Devil in it was a little silly. Richard Crenna did well in the lead role. Some of the other actors weren't the best, but that is often the case in horror movies so I will let that slide. So, overall this was a fun horror movie that isn't very scary, but has some good scenes in it. It kept me watching but I did feel that the ending let it down. It is worth a look if you like supernatural horror. I will give it a 5/10.

Puppet Master:Axis Termination Movie Review

Trailer here

Puppet Master:Axis Termination is a 2017 horror movie and the eleventh movie in the Puppet Master series. It is directed by Charles Band and stars George Appleby, Tonya Kay and Tania Fox.

The movie begins in Los Angeles, 1942. Danny and Beth get killed. Captain Brooks(Paul Logan) arrives and shoots their killer. Beth has some dying words for him. She asks him to take care of the puppets. Brooks goes to see General Hansard(Allen Perade) who tells him that he will be working with Dr. Ivanov(George Appleby). The General says that there is an army task force investigating magic and the occult. Ivanov is in charge of it. Cut to the Nazis and Doktor Gerde Ernst(Tonya Kay) is working with Sturmbahnfurher Steiner Krabke(Kevin Scott Allen)on experiments. They discover evil puppets.

Two guys are working at a power station when they see the werewolf puppet, Weremacht. It attacks one of them while another evil puppet, Bombshell, shoots the other guy. Gerda gets them to plant bombs in the power station and it is blown up. Ivanov has all of the other puppets. He has a daughter, Elisa(Tania Fox) and she has some psychic powers. Her father can sense emotions . He has a friend called Georgina Vale(Alynxia America) who possesses powers also. Dr. Ivanov tells Brooks that she is a witch. Elisa could see the puppets planting the bombs in her mind. She sees Gerda also. Krabke is torturing people. Gerda can sense Ivanov. She knows that he is working against her. She has a psychic called Madame Longpre. She is using her to search for Ivanov's location. He has a scroll that explains how to make the elixir the puppets need but he can't read it. He knows that Gerda will come for it.

Ivanov gives Brooks a rune to protect him. He is seeking Gerda, but he can't find her. Gerda tries to duplicate the elixir, but it is a failure. Madame Longpre locates them. Ivanov, Brooks and Georgina go to the power plant. They bring Blade with them. It is a trap and Krabke emerges from the darkness. He takes on Georgina first and she is no match for him. He catches all of them and he tells them he wants the puppets for himself. Gerda goes and catches Elisa. She has a helper called  Steitze(Kirsten Ostrenga) who has poisonous fingers. The puppets attack Gerda and Steitze steps in to stop them. She hurts Pinhead. The others are still at the power station. Leech Woman spits a leech onto Krabke's eye and blinds him. The others take the chance to escape. They get home to find Jester and Pinhead destroyed. Krabke loses his eye and he is angry. He wants to exchange the scroll and the elixir that Ivanov has for Elisa. Gerda has powers of her own. She is stronger than Krabke. The gang breaks into her lair and they encounter the bad puppets- Weremacht, Blitzkrieg and Bombshell.

Weremacht kills Madame Longpre after Gerda discovers that she was trying to help Elisa. Georgina meets her end also. Pinhead comes back and joins the fight. Gerda comes face to face with Ivanov.
Gerda talks to him about the puppets and she makes fun of them. Brooks and Pinhead take care of Krabke. Gerda orders the puppets to kill Ivanov. They turn against her and they kill her instead. Elisa, Brooks and Ivanov meet up. Ivanov destroys the evil that was Gerda and leaves. He puts all of the puppets back into their box and the movie ends.

This sequel wasn't bad. It finished up the story pretty well. I have enjoyed the sequels for the most part and I think that the Puppet Master franchise is decent. I have had fun making my way through them. I know that Blade has his own movie which I look forward to watching soon. This will be your cup of tea if you have been following the story and you want to know how it ends. I will give this a 5/10.

Tales That Witness Madness Movie Review

Tales that Witness Madness is a 1973 horror anthology movie directed by Freddie Francis and starring Donald Pleasence, Kim Novak, Joan Collins and Suzy Kendall.

The film begins in a mental institution with a psychiatrist called Dr. Tremayne (Pleasence)who is meeting the younger Dr. Nicholas(Jack Hawkins) and telling him that he has been working on four cases. They go to visit each one. The first one is called Mr.Tiger. It is about a young boy called Paul. His parents are fighting and he is listening to it. He has an imaginary friend called Mr. Tiger. He tells his mother about it, but she isn't happy. She and his father discuss it. Mr. Tiger needs meat and bones. Paul takes them from the kitchen to feed to him.  His mother catches him and she tells his father what Paul has been up to. They try and find out what is going on but Mr. Tiger makes an appearance and he kills both of the parents, showing us that he is more than just an imaginary friend.

The second tale is called Penny Farthing. It begins in an antique shop. A man called Timothy(Peter McEnry) has a portrait in his shop of Uncle Albert. He got furniture and bits and pieces from his aunt. There is a penny farthing bicycle there. The portrait seems to be coming alive. The wheels of the bicycle start to move. Timothy looks at the portrait and it tries to draw him in. He ends up on the bicycle and he goes back in time. He sees a young woman called Beatrice(Suzy Kendall) and he likes her. He comes back and he tells his girlfriend Ann who is identical to Beatrice. He goes back a few times and Ann thinks that he should destroy it. He sets the portrait on fire. The portrait tries to destroy Ann. Tim is pulled into the fire. Ann is killed by a sword. Tim cycles back in time, but he is on fire. He is dead. Tim wakes up in an institution.

The third story is Mel. A man called Brian(Michael Jayston) finds a tree trunk. He decides to bring it into the house. His wife, Bella(Collins) does not like it one little bit. He finds a name for it. Mel. The tree seems to have a weird human like shape. The tree does not like Bella. When she tries to mess with it, it cuts her hand. Bella tells Brian about it. He doesn't take any notice. He gets more and more involved with the tree. Bella gets angrier and angrier about it. She gets a machete and she tries to cut the tree to bits, but it kills her instead. Brian sees what has happens and he buries the wife and he and the tree become a couple!

The last story is called Luau . This tale begins with a woman called Auriol Pageant(Novak), a literary agent who wants to do business with a strange young man called Kimo. She is throwing him a big party and she wants her daughter Ginny(Mary Tamm), to help her.  Kimo is very interested in Ginny. He has picked her out as 'the one'. He finds out that she is going to France alone. He tells her that he will follow her there. He has chosen her as a sacrifice. His mother is dying and he needs to consume the flesh of a young virgin to ensure that she has a peaceful afterlife. He has Ginny cooked and he serves her at the party. He serves her to Auriol and when she finds out, she goes crazy. Hence her stay in the institution.

The movie ends with Tremayne being declared insane for believing the stories by the younger doctor. Dr. Nicholas ends up getting locked in with Paul and Mr. Tiger. It kills him, proving that the stories were true. I really enjoyed this one. I hadn't heard of it before I watched it, but it proved to be a fun anthology. The cast were great and the stories were entertaining. If you enjoy the anthologies from Amicus, then this will be right up your street. This feels like one of those. Overall, a very enjoyable film with a great cast. I would certainly recommend this. I will give it a 7/10.

The Torture Chamber of Dr. Sadism Movie Review

Trailer here.

The Torture Chamber of Dr. Sadism or The Blood Demon is a 1967 German horror movie directed by Harald Reinl and starring Christopher Lee, Karin Dor, Lex Barker and Carl Lange.

A man called Count Regula(Lee) is found guilty of torturing people in his castle. He is killed by the local people but before he dies, he threatens to destroy all of their families. Cut to thirty five years later, and a man called Roger Mont Elise(Barker) receives a letter inviting him and Baroness Lilian(Dor) to stay at Blood Castle, where the infamous Count Regula did his evil deeds years ago. They arrive in the area and the locals are afraid when Roger asks them about the castle. The locals are trying to drive out the evil that persists since the Count's demise. Roger talks to a local man called Fabian(Vladimir Medar), who tells him that the castle is evil. He tells Roger about Regula and tells him that the Count is dead and that he is in danger if he goes to the castle. The locals called it the Bloody Castle. Roger knows nothing about his past and he is very curious about it. The Baroness is promised an inheritance and she wants to get it. On their way to the castle, they see body parts hanging from the trees and their driver has a heart attack and dies.

The Baroness and her maid, Babette(Christian Rucker) get abducted by men and taken away. Roger and Fabian look for them. They find Regula's grave. They also come upon the castle. They look around and they get locked inside. A man appears. He is Anatol(Lange), the evil servant of Count Regula. He tells them to come with him and they find Lilian, who seems to be acting strangely. She is scared. Babette is being tortured by Roger and Fabian save her. She tells them that Anatol attacked her. Fabian confronts the servant and he shoots him. It turns out that Anantol is already dead! He says that Count Regula is waiting for them. Roger has a look around and he finds dead girls. What is going on in this den of evil?

Anatol has the dead body of Regula in a glass coffin. He is planning on resurrecting him. Regula comes back to life and informs them that he needs the blood of one more young woman to complete his quest for eternal life. He tells them that he killed twelve and he needed thirteen but he was unable to kill her before he got caught by the locals. The thirteenth girl was Lilian's mother. She handed him over to the police. Roger's father was the one who sentenced him to death , so he wants revenge. He wants Lilian's blood to complete his eternal life. Roger gets tied up and tortured with a pendulum which is swinging over his head. It is getting closer and closer all the time and it is sharp. Lilian is forced to watch until she can't anymore. She runs off through the castle passages. She sees spiders and scorpions. She ends up locked in a room with snakes. She is close to falling into a pit filled with them.  She gets out and Roger also escapes from his torturous trap. He finds Fabian and they search for the Baroness.

Count Regula sends his evil cohort to get Lilian's blood. Roger has a crucifix. The Count tells him that he must destroy it or he will kill Lilian. He and Anatol are frightened of it. Roger swings it like the pendulum and then he throws it at the Count. This causes Count Regula to disintegrate into nothing along with his creepy servant. The castle starts to fall apart also. Roger and the others leave before it is destroyed. He and the Baroness share a kiss before walking away.

This is not a well known film. I hadn't heard of it until recently and I loved the title! Christopher Lee doesn't get loads of screen time in this, but he is always great when he does show up. I liked the cast and the setting of the castle filled with torture devices and traps was eerie. The scene that stood out for me in this was the forest filled with severed body parts hanging from the trees. That was a really good scene and creepy too. So, if you can get your hands on this one, it is worth a look. I am giving it a 5/10.

Rent A Pal Movie Review

 Watch trailer here.

Rent-A-Pal is a 2020 thriller directed by Jon Stevenson and starring Wil Wheaton and Brian Landis Folkins.

The movie begins in 1990 with a man called David(Folkins), who is looking through dating videos. He looks at various women. He lives with his mother, who is old and ill. He is her carer. The company that supplies the dating videos are called Video Rendezvous. David is hoping for a match but there is none. He is told that he should record a new video to get more interest. David isn't very confident with women and it shows when he records his video. He discovers a video called Rent A Pal and he is intrigued. He takes it home with him. He decides to watch it. There is a guy on it called Andy(Wheaton) and he wants to be pals with David. David doesn't know what to think about it and he stops it but it comes back on again. Andy talks to David about his life. David begins to reply.

David gets a call from Video Rendezvous telling him that he has gotten some interest from a girl. It turns out to be a mistake and David is very upset over it. He goes back to Andy and they talk about what happened. Andy tells him stories about things that happened to him. They interact more. David starts to play it constantly. They play games and they swap stories. They become real friends. David ends up masturbating to Andy's sex stories. He gets caught by his mother. He goes mad and he has a fight with her. She is very upset. Andy laughs. Video Rendezvous calls and tells David that he has a match. Her name is Lisa(Amy Rutledge). They agree to meet for a date. They do and they get along very well. She likes David and he likes her. He is happy. He goes to tell Andy about it. Andy isn't very happy. He tells David that he won't have time to talk to him anymore.

David feels guilty about leaving Andy and he decides that he isn't going to see Lisa. His mother goes missing and he panics. Lisa shows up and she helps him find his mother. They bring her home and David invites her in. They chat and they kiss. The TV comes on and Andy comes on screen. He isn't happy. Lisa asks David about it. David gets mad at her and she leaves. The next day, she calls him and she wants to talk. He cuts her off. He discovers that Andy is missing. The video has gone. His mother has cut it up. He hits her and leaves her on the floor while he goes to Video Rendezvous to get another. Andy comes back up on the screen. He tells David that he doesn't need his mother. Andy pushes her down the stairs and leaves her there. Andy tells David that he is there for him. He is playing on all of the TV's in the house.Lisa shows up and sees what he has done to his mother. He tries to kill her, but she stabs him and escapes. He stumbles to the basement and Andy talks to him. He tells him that he has to say goodbye as David dies.

This is a weird film. I did like the premise, though. I thought that the idea of the sinister video was interesting. This was a tad slow in places and there wasn't enough suspense in it for me. It wasn't scary or creepy at all, but I suppose this isn't meant to be a horror movie. I think that it could have been a lot better overall. I did enjoy Wil Wheaton as the sinister Andy. He did a good job in this. So, I found it middle of the road and I think that it is an interesting watch, but slow. I will give it a 5/10.

Hack- O- Lantern Movie Review

 Trailer here.

Hack -O- Lantern is a 1988 horror movie directed by Jag Mundhra and starring Hy Pike and Gregory Scott Cummins.

The movie begins with grandpa(Pike) coming to visit his grandson, Tommy(Cummins). He brings him a pumpkin for Halloween and he hands him a pendant. Tommy's mother doesn't like grandpa visiting her son. Her husband goes to visit grandpa and warn him to stay away but he ends up seeing a cult and grandpa is part of it. Grandpa kills him. Cut to years later and Tommy is all grown up. He still has the pendant. Grandpa is still around and he tells Tommy that he is going to join his cult tonight. Mother is still not happy but there isn't much she can do about it. She tries to reason with grandpa, but he won't change his mind. There is some sort of weird incest vibe between them.

Tommy's sister is Vera(Carla Baron) and his brother is Roger(Jeff Brown), who happens to be a cop. There is a Halloween party on and Vera is going with her friend, Beth(Patricia Christie). Mother tries to talk to Tommy but he is set on joining grandpa's gang. He has some weird dream about being a band with a woman dancing around and shooting lasers. She dances with Tommy and she sticks a pitchfork through him. Roger talks to mother about Tommy. Beth and Roger meet and they like each other. Roger finds Tommy's Satanic lair. Things are getting out of hand here! An unknown killer is on the prowl and they kill Tommy's gal pal. Vera has a boyfriend called Brian and he and Tommy have a run in. The killer chases Brian and he ends up dead. What is going on in this weird place??

Grandpa and his group have a young girl in their meeting place and they brand her backside with a pentagram. Roger and Beth are getting on really well. Vera and Beth happen to be walking through the cemetery when they come upon Brian's dead body. Vera thinks that Tommy is to blame and she goes looking for him at grandpa's place. She goes there and interrupts the cult's ceremony. Grandpa tells her that she is going to pay for interrupting him. He orders Tommy to kill her, but he won't do it. Grandpa is hopping mad. Vera escapes and gets Beth and they go looking for Roger at the Halloween party. Tommy runs away from grandpa. The killer is at the party and more people die. The cops go to grandpa's barn, but he has hidden all of the cult stuff.

Grandpa shows up at the party and he tries to attack Vera. He is stopped by Roger but he passes his power onto him before he dies. Roger sees the killer and he shoots at them. The killer runs off and goes to the cemetery. It turns out to be mother!!! She is at her husband's grave. Tommy ends up there too and they bond before she dies. The movie ends with Roger becoming the next leader of the cult. What can I say about this film...It was bad. The story was bad, the acting was bad and the ending was bad. I hadn't heard of this one before and I was intrigued by the title, but it did not live up to my expectations at all. It doesn't have enough in it to be a decent Halloween movie. It doesn't have a great story and the kills weren't all that good either. It was just poor overall. Watch at your own peril. I give this a 3/10.

The Legend of Halloween Jack Movie Review

 Trailer: https://youtu.be/Hq5oQnJFzy8

The Legend of Halloween Jack is a 2018 horror movie directed by Andrew Jones and starring Colin Holt, Sarah John, Doug Cooper and Lee Bane.

The movie begins with two people being found dead. A local man called Jack Cain(Bane) is accused of the crime and he is being tried in court. He pleads not guilty. People in the area think that he is a weirdo. The evidence they have was obtained illegally so there is a mistrial and he walks free. The cop who was working on the case is called Frank(Holt) and people blame him. The victim's family want justice. The mayor, Milton Boggs(Cooper), wants justice too. Frank and Milton decide to do something along with locals Johnny(Aaron Jeffcoate) and Joe(Jason Gregg). Jack gets attacked by them and led into a field where a makeshift crucifix is waiting. They dress him as a scarecrow(for some reason) and tie him to the cross. Each of them takes one shot at him. They kill him and agree never to discuss it again.

One year later, Johnny is drunk and he wanders to the spot where they killed Jack Cain. He has a gun and he shoots himself in the head. His blood seeps into Jack's grave and awakens him. The others find out about Johnny. Frank is investigating and he discovers that someone has climbed out of Jack's grave. The group meet to discuss what happened to Johnny. Frank is worried that they will get found out. He goes to visit Johnny's mother and asks about him. Milton and Frank discuss what they did. Frank isn't very happy about it. Halloween Jack kills Joe. Frank is on the case and he realises that someone is out for revenge. Frank buys guns from some guy while Milton visits Johnny's mother and kills her. Halloween Jack ends up killing Milton and his wife.

There is a Halloween party on. It looks kind of deserted and the band are playing the same song over and over. Frank and his partner, Brodie(Jamie Knox) look into Milton's death. Frank tells Brodie about what they did. He is the last one left. He tells Brodie that he thinks that Cain was innocent. Another man confessed to the crime. He tells Brodie to go to the Halloween party and protect Jennifer(John), his daughter. What Frank doesn't know is that Brodie and Jennifer are an item. She is also pregnant. Frank goes to local mystic/weirdo Anton(Ed Zephyr). Anton informs Frank that Jack is back for revenge. He gets power from the souls of the people he kills. Jack was into the occult. Frank kills Anton is a bizarre scene.

Halloween Jack visits the party and starts killing the one or two party goers. The party looks pretty dead already. Brodie shoots Jack and thinks that he is dead. Of course, he isn't. Frank sends Brodie and Jennifer out of the building. The band speed off the stage and the one or two other party people leave. It is Frank vs. Halloween Jack. Frank decides to blow up the old village hall and himself and Jack with it. The movie ends with a news report about the place, which is called Dunwich. One year later, Jennifer is upset about her dad and she is at his grave. There is an unnecessarily long scene about her at the grave. She takes a look at Jack Cain's grave and a hand comes up to grab her. It couldn't be Halloween Jack, could it????

Right. There are so many things that I will say about this film. Firstly, there were a mixture of American accents and British accents. It was hard to know where this was supposed to be set.I did hear something about Sacramento but it is supposedly set in Britain. Some of the scenes were silly. There were some attempts at humour which fell totally flat and a lame story about some guy sticking a pencil into some other guy's backside!! The band seemed to play the same song all of the time at the party, which consisted of a handful of people. It was really deserted but when Halloween Jack showed up, they made it seem like there were loads of people. There was a scene where the cop is buying guns and the dealer was not wearing any t shirt or anything. Just topless. For no reason. It was so silly. Oh yes, and the gun shots in this sounded like some guy with a cap gun. And another thing, why did they dress the guy up as a scarecrow?? It made no sense. There was no explanation as to why they did that. His costume wasn't bad, but everything else about this film was poor. I liked the title, but that's about it. I would say that if you enjoy really bad films, you might like this. It was so silly, it did make me laugh, but be warned. It is pretty brutal and not in a good way. I will give it a 2/10.

Berserker Movie

Trailer here

Berserker is a 1987 horror movie directed by Jefferson Richard and starring Greg Dawson and Beth Toussaint.

The movie begins with flashbacks to the tenth century where Viking warriors were around. Cut to modern day and an old couple get lost in the wilderness. They get murdered by something lurking in the bushes. A group of young people are going for a camping trip. They are Josh(Greg Dawson), Larry, Mike, Kristi, Kathy and Shelly(Toussaint). The place they are going is called Rainbow Valley and it was settled by Norwegians years ago. They get stopped by a local cop who informs them that there are animals out in the woods. He is very odd. The owner of the campsite is called Pappy Nyquist(George "Buck" Flower) and he isn't too friendly either. He rents them a spot and warns them to be careful. Larry is reading about the Berserkers. They were warriors and they ate human flesh. He tells the group that they can possess their relatives.

The cop is called Walt and he is Pappy's cousin. They meet and talk about the group of people who are camping. Walt worries about them being out in the wilderness. He decides that he will check on them. Josh has been in Rainbow Valley before and he directs the group to a different spot than they were given by Pappy. Kristi meets some sort of bear in the woods and she gets mauled. Shelley and Mike find a dead body. They run off into the woods and Shelley finds Kristi's dead body. She ends up getting attacked too. She dies. The rest of the group find her and Kristi. Josh tells them that they need to get help. Pappy goes out in his truck to check on them.

Josh manages to get everyone lost. Pappy is out there looking for them. Mike remembers where their cabin is. He and Kathy have to go for help. Josh has to stay with Larry, who has hurt his leg. Mike ad Kathy reach the cabin. Mike takes a motorbike and drives off for help. Josh gets mauled. Larry is stuck and watches as a bear fights the Berserker who has been attacking people. The Berserker runs away. Larry makes his way back to the cabin slowly. Mike meets Walt and tells him what's going on.
Larry reaches the cabin where Kathy is. She runs outside to meet him. The Berserker shows up. Kathy flags Walt down. He sees the Berserker too. He draws his gun but seems reluctant to shoot it but he does. Back up arrives and we discover that Pappy was the Berserker. The movie ends with him waking up.

This film is cheaply made and not the best. There are some scenes that are silly and there isn't very much of the Berserker in this. There is a bear wandering around, which adds to the confusion at times. It could be a lot better but the acting is bad, the kills are so so and the ending isn't great either.
I wanted to see it because I love 80's horror movies, but just be warned that this one is not very good unfortunately. I will give it a 4/10.

The Creeping Flesh Movie Review

The Creeping Flesh is a 1973 horror movie directed by Freddie Francis and starring Peter Cushing and Christopher Lee.

The film begins with Professor Emmanuel Hildern(Cushing) who needs help with his research. He meets a young man who is a doctor. He tells him that his story. Three years ago, in 1894,he brought back a skeleton from New Guinea. He lives with his daughter, Penelope(Lorna Heilbron) and he has a brother called James(Lee), who runs an asylum. Emmanuel's wife was locked up in the asylum and she has finally died. The Professor wants to make a big name for himself in his field by showing the skeleton to the world. There is something unusual about it. Emmanuel has lied to his daughter about her mother. He told her that she had died instead of revealing that she was languishing in an insane asylum. James is writing a book on mental disorders and he is hoping to win the same prize that Emmanuel is hoping to secure. He was subsidising Emmanuel's research but he is going to cut him off.

A lunatic escapes from the asylum. Penelope is curious about her mother. She wants to know more about her. Emmanuel is washing the skeleton when he sees that it is starting to grow. James is performing experiments in his asylum. He has to shoot one of the inmates when he tries to escape.
The police are on the lookout for the escaped inmate who made it out. His name is Lenny. The professor has a helper who tries to wash the skeleton but is stopped by Emmanuel. It seems that the skeleton is being brought back to life by water. It is an ancient being who is evil. Her develops a serum from the blood on the skeletons newly grown flesh. He tests it out on a monkey and it seems to work. Emmanuel thinks that his serum will get rid of evil or madness for good.

Penelope finds out about her mother. Emmanuel is scares in case she goes mad like her mother did.
In a moment of madness, he injects her with his serum. The lunatic Lenny goes mad also and tries to attack people in town. Penelope wanders off. She is upset over her mother. Emmanuel finds the monkey had died. He is worried about his daughter. He goes to look for her. She is going crazy. She attacks a man. She hides in a store. The police are after Lenny and her. She bumps into Lenny and he takes her hostage. She knocks him off a ledge and kills him. She is taken away and put into the asylum run by her uncle James. He brings her home to Emmanuel. James sees the lab and he finds notes that Emmanuel has been making. He takes them with him. He wants the skeleton also so he can take credit for the discovery.

James gets a man to steal the skeleton for him. Unfortunately, the man exposes it to the rain! What happens ??? It reforms into a man. It seems to be alive. It comes after the professor. It wants its finger back. It takes his finger as payment. That is the end of the professor's story. We find out that Emmanuel is in the asylum. His daughter is there too. James claims that both of them are insane and he has won the prize for his work. Emmanuel claims that he is James' brother, but nobody believes him. He is also missing a finger. Is his story true or is he insane?? Nobody knows.

This was a fun film. The story had a lot going on at the same time, but it was interesting. Cushing was great as always and Lee was great as the not so nice brother. I think that the ending is left up to the viewer to decide. Was he mad or was his story real and did his brother stitch him up. I'm not sure , to be honest. All in all, I enjoyed this film and I definitely recommend to all lovers of Cushing and Lee. I will give it a 6/10.

Slaughterhouse Movie Review

Slaughterhouse is a 1987 horror movie directed by Rick Roessler and starring Joe B Barton, Don Barrett,Sherry Bendorf and William Houck.

A group of teens meet their end in a creepy area. A man called Lester Bacon(Barrett) lives with his son, Buddy(Barton) on a site. There is an old slaughterhouse attached to it. He has been offered money to sell his site. A man called Tom( Bill Brinsfield) is the man who wants it. He owns a meat packaging plant. Tom brings Sheriff Borden(Houck) and Lester's attorney, Harold(Lee Robinson) to talk some sense into Lester, who is refusing to sell it. He is stubborn. The Sheriff gives him thirty days to leave the property. Buddy hears all of this and he is angry.

Sheriff Borden has a daughter called Liz(Bendorf). She wants to make a movie and she brings her friends to the slaughterhouse to film it. What they don't know is that local kids have been disappearing. Buddy has been disposing of them and putting them in the slaughterhouse. The Sheriff's deputy, Dave, is investigating the disappearances. He arrives at the slaughterhouse and he has a look around. He meets Buddy who cuts Dave's arm off. Lester sees what Buddy has done and he isn't happy about it. Harold arrives at the slaughterhouse. Lester confronts him. Buddy takes care of him also. Sheriff Borden can't find Dave. Buddy drives around in Dave's car and meets Dave's girlfriend, who he attacks. The Sheriff is getting worried now. Tom goes to the slaughterhouse and guess what? He gets killed there. Is there no end to the slaughter in the slaughterhouse???

Liz and her friends go to the slaughterhouse late and the boys play a trick on the girls by putting masks on and trying to scare them. Unfortunately for them. Buddy is not in the mood for tricks and he starts killing. The Sheriff is on the way out there. Liz is left wandering around and she meets Lester, who has lots of bodies hanging on meat hooks. He decides that she will have to die too. Her father is there though, and Liz manages to get away from Lester. He gets injured. Buddy chases Liz but her father finds her and together, they try to escape. Lester stabs the Sheriff and Liz shoots Lester.
She and her injured father get into his patrol car and drive off. Buddy just happens to be in the back and the movie ends with him attacking them.

This film wasn't bad. It wasn't great either. The setting of the slaughterhouse was creepy and the story wasn't terrible. There were some decent scenes in it, I have to say. It is one of those middle of the road slasher films. I wanted to like it more than I did. I found it just okay. I will say that it is fun overall, though, and it will pass ninety minutes quite nicely if you enjoy 1980's slashers, as I do. I will give this one a 5/10.

Don't Go in the Woods Movie Review

Don't Go in the Woods is a 1981 horror movie directed by James Bryan and starring Jack McClelland and Mary Gail Artz.

The movie begins with some campers getting attacked and killed in the woods by an unknown assailant. A group of campers are going to the woods for a camping trip. They are Peter(McClelland), Ingrid(Artz), Craig(James P. Hayden) and Joanie(Angie Brown). They are walking through the woods when they smell something really bad. They look for a cabin to stay in. The local cops are wondering why there are so many missing people. The Sheriff(Ken Carter) is told about it. He starts to investigate by talking to the locals. More people get killed in the woods. The Sheriff starts a search for missing persons. A woman is in the woods painting a picture with her baby. She gets killed and the baby is taken.

Peter sees something in the woods. It is a man. He heads off alone to see what is going on. The others are worried. Peter sees the man killing someone and he runs off. The killer has spotted him, so he is in trouble! Ingrid is waiting for him. The group decide that they will look for him. Craig meets his end when he encounters the maniac. He meets a sticky end. Joanie runs off through the woods. Ingrid finds Peter and they go to find the rest of their group. They find a cabin and they look for food. What they find is Craig's dead body. They run off once again. The maniac follows closely. Ingrid makes it to hospital along with Peter. Joanie is still in the woods. Ingrid and Peter tell the Sheriff what happened. He arranges a huge manhunt. Peter decides to go back into the woods to look for Joanie. She is in a cabin and the maniac shows up.

The Sheriff finds the cabin and he finds Joanie and she is pretty dead. The Sheriff recovers six bodies. He wants to find Peter so he brings Ingrid up there to bring him in. A guy who just happens to be rolling around the woods in his wheelchair gets decapitated!! Ingrid finds a knife and she goes to find Peter. They discover the maniac and Peter injures him. He and Ingrid share a hug. The maniac is not dead and he chases them. They manage to get him this time and stab him until he can't get up. The movie ends with Ingrid and Peter walking away. The baby from earlier is in the woods is playing with a hatchet.

This film is not great at all. I didn't hate it, but I found that it was really badly made. The acting was terrible and there were some silly scenes. It is one of those really cheap 1980's slasher movies that were churned out. If you enjoy some cheap horror, then you might enjoy this one. It is really just for die hard horror fans, I think. I always have fun with these bad films and even though this was pretty bad, it was worth a look!!! I will give it a 4/10.
