Cube Movie Review – A Jigsaw Classic

Imagine you are doing your usual nightly routine. You put the kids to bed (if you have any) or put the cat and/or dog outside and you lock the front door. Safe and sound you check it again and all is secure. You make and drink your hot chocolate and retire to the bedroom. After a long day at work you take off your clothes and jump in to the bed. Maybe a short read of the newspaper or a book and a gentle kiss for your loved one beside you! Safely tucked up in your bed you turn off the light and settle down for sleep.Making a mental note of your plans for the next day you drift peacefully off to sleep………

Then you wake up in a strange place surrounded by walls everywhere with hatches in each wall and ceiling and floor!!! This is when you know that you are now in the Cube…………

Above you looking down are these bunch of weirdos!

Cube is a movie from 1997 written and directed by Vincenzo Natali and is going to be my first post of my new series of Jigsaw Classics. These will be movies that I love to watch again and again and hopefully you will like them too.If you do not then please comment so I can correct you...........emmm I meant debate with you on their merits!!! I remember watching Cube thinking this wont be much good but how wrong I was.It was like a puzzle to be solved.People just wake up and they are in a Cube.No memory of how they got there or why.Imagine if this happened to you! What would you do? Of course it is handy if you are an escape artist like a guy in the movie!

I love the ending in it and wonder what you thought of it.I won't spoil it in case you haven't seen it yet.As the people try to get out they find traps hidden in each Cube so it was like an early version of Saw! On another trivia note each character is named after famous prisons in the world.I would recommend you getting this on DVD if you have not already as it is a good watch. There are all unknown actors in it and that can be a good thing as you are not distracted by Tom Cruise in the corner as he would definitely be getting out at the end!! This way you do not know who if anyone will get out!!!! Track this movie down as it is worth it!!!!

I saw this movie back in 1997 and I have to say it was excellent (especially the opening scene with razor grid, later copied by Resident Evil). Simple and thrilling. Unfortunately, sequels were less than average...

Yes Cube is a great movie.I have seen Hypercube which had an interesting Cube idea of dimensions but I did not like the ending. They tried to explain the Cube and that did not work.Haven't seen Cubezero yet.Tho it probable is like you said below average.Any one think it is good? Let me know !

I usually remember these movies if there a hot chick; and The Cube was the first time I remember seeing Nicole de Boer. She later went on to be Ezri Dax in Star Trek: Deep Space Nine and Sarah in The Dead Zone.

Enjoyed this film too - there were genuine shocks as the setting was so abstract you couldn't predict what would happen next. This is also a textbook example of how to produce a low-budget movie: script it so it all takes place in one room...

Just rewatched cube and I want to understand the physical nature and the mathematics behind it, mostly because I would enjoy knowing if the concept is fundamentally sound. I understand that there are 26 rooms per length per with and per height and that one room moved to the bridge at a time causing all other rooms to shift. How did leavin figure out which room was next to the bridge room to time it just right? Especially considering there was an elevator moving rooms up (and down?) I know I'd never get out cause I suck at factorials and primary numbers to name a few. I'm curious to your theory on how feasible the structure is.

Very good point, congratulations.

But... I can't understand the final of the movie.
