The Curious Case of Benjamin Button Movie Review 12

The Curious Case of Benjamin Button is a movie starring Brad Pitt and Cate Blanchett about a man who is born old and begins ageing backwards. It is based on the 1921 short story of the same name by F. Scott Fitzgerald. It starts off with a blind clockmaker whose son dies in battle in World War One and he makes a big clock to go in the train station in New Orleans. When it is unveiled we realise that he built the clock to go backwards. He did this in the hopes that time might go backwards and his son would not be killed.

Then we go to present time and an old lady who is on her death bed.She asks her daughter to read from a diary and we learn it is Benjamin Button's diary. This is the Pittster and we hear his voice read his diary as we go to around world war one time in flashback.A mother dies giving birth and a father decides to leave the baby on the stairs of a nursing home and the baby is found and reared there. He has the appearance and physical characteristics of an old man but gradually as he gets bigger he begins to grow younger.

When he is a bit older he meets Daisy and as she grows older he gets younger looking.

Obviously I am giving nothing away that Daisy grows up to be Cate Blanchett. They also meet Captain Mike when Benjamin works on his tug boat.Captain Mike is played by Jared Harris who has the most ridiculous accent going.I didn't know whether he was meant to be Irish or Scottish but he ends up neither one.He had a bit of English accent thrown in but I just read he is English and Richard Harris is his father. He had a welsh mother also so maybe that's why his accent is terrible!!!!

Other than the weird fact that Pitt is getting younger in every scene that's about it.You can tell this is like my Seven Pounds review with both Will Smith and Brad Pitt making these movies to get an Oscar nomination!! This movie is 160 Min's long.Yes,that's right.160 Min's long!!!!!!! They didn't seem to realise that this is based on a SHORT story not a long one!!!! It is one of those movies where nothing happens at all that is a love story. The sad thing being as she gets older he gets younger.Oh no!!! I'm so sad!!! I never thought I would see a movie as bad as The Happening but here it is! How this is at #61 in IMDB I will never know! People on IMDB are raving about this but I think it is because it is a period piece. The sets and locations are perfect and you do think that you are back in that time but the story is really boring.Pitt doesn't show up till the middle and I am sure it is to try to get an Oscar for a really "clever moral tale" Translated that means boring movie very much in the vein of There will be Blood and No Country for old Men.If you liked them then you will probably like this also but I prefer There will be Blood in a Saw Movie rather than just There will be Blood!!!

The Curious Case of Benjamin Button (0/10)

Cate Blanchett with a southern accent FTW; but it kept dragging on, always pausing dramatically on Brad Pitt's face, a lot like Meet Joe Black
